Money Saving Tips for Your Next Hayward AquaNaut 400 Tire Change

The only real maintenance you will need to perform on your Hayward AquaNaut 400, AquaNaut 450, Phoenix 4X and PoolCleaner 4X is changing the tires every 14 to 16 months. Changing the tires on the 4-wheel models is a little more complicated, but still easy. Choosing the right replacement tires is also a simple task now that there are many generic choices available.

Going with the OEM replacement tires are your choice; however, I personally think it would be a waste of money. You won’t be able to get an exact match if you go with a generic brand, but you will save 75% of the cost. If you do go with the Original Manufactured Part or OEM Part, you will be paying over $85.00 for these 4 tires:

OEM Front: Hayward AquaNaut 200 400 Wheel Tread Tire Super Hump PVXS11PK2-234
OEM Back: Hayward AquaNaut 400 Metallic Blue Wheel Tread Tire PVXS16PK2-234

But for $20 you can get a 4 pack of generic tires for the cleaner like any of these two brands:

ATIE PoolSupplyTown Front Tire and Rear Tire Combo Kit Replacement for The PoolCleaner Poolvergnuegen Front Tire Kit with Super Hump 896584000-143 and Rear Tire Kit 896584000-082 (2 Pack)

AR-PRO Replacement Tires with Super Hump for Poolvergnuegen 896584000-143, Fits Select Poolvergnuegen Cleaners, 4-Pack

I just purchase 4 packs of the standard front Super Hump tires and simply cut the humps off for the two back tires. Mainly because most of the units on my route are the 2-wheel version. Either way, you are saving 75% on the cost of the tires if you go with a generic brand versus the Hayward OEM ones. To me they wear out the same no matter which brand you choose, you just won’t get the Metallic Blue tire color, it will be a light blue color.

Changing the front tires are very easy and the cleaner is very balanced so pulling those two tires off is as a snap. The back tires are a bit harder to get at. The easiest way to change the two back tires is to remove the two back tires. You can also remove the cleaner throat and then the skirts on the bottom, but you will still have trouble squeezing the tires on the back without removing them. Since removing them is very easy, there is no reason not to.

Simply take a flat head screwdriver and pop off the hubcaps. There is a small notch that you can fit the screwdriver into. Next, you will have to pull the tire off. It may be on tight, so sometimes you will need to insert the flat head screwdriver against the body, and then wedge the wheel off of the back. Once you have the wheel off, putting on the new tire is very simple.

Changing the tires in the 4-wheel models require some extra work, but once you do it you will see that it is very easy. I wouldn’t avoid getting a 4-wheel model just because it has t extra tires to change. It is an easy process and with the generic tires, it is also very affordable.
