Alternatives to 3" Tri-Chlor Tablets to Sanitize your Swimming Pool

THE HASA LIQUIDATOR  is a chlorine feeder that is safer and cleaner than, and just as convenient as, floating tablet feeders. By attaching to and running off of your pool’s pump, The Liquidator saves you the trouble of having to worry about putting the right amount of chlorine into your pool every single day. This is a great alternative to Tri-Chlor tablets and liquid chlorine is affordable and readily available.

At the moment Tri-Chlor tablets are in short supply and are going up in price every week. If you are considering an alternative there are a few logical options and as some may suggest a Salt Water Generator or Salt Water System is not the best option. Let me list the pros and cons of the available sanitizer options for you.

Tri-Chlor:
This is an easy method no doubt. Drop some tablets or as some call them pucks into a floater or in-line chlorinator and you are done. The tablets slowly dissolve during the week and your free chlorine level is easily maintained. The main drawback of course is that each tablet is about 50% or more of Cyanuric Acid (CYA) so your pool’s CYA level will rise rapidly. The major drawback of this is that as the CYA level rises so does the amount of Free Chlorine you will need to maintain a safe and algae-free pool. For example, if we use the 7.5% chlorine to CYA ratio if your pool has a CYA level of 100 ppm you will need a chlorine level of 7.5 ppm for the chlorine in the pool to be effective. Bring the CYA to 200 ppm and you will need a chlorine level each week of 14 ppm. So Tri-Chlor tablets do have that very big downside.

Cal-Hypo Tablets:
You can’t switch directly from Tri-Chlor to Cal Hypo tablets and use the same floater or in-line feeder. Mixing these two chemicals will cause an explosion. So if you do switch to Cal Hypo tablets you will need a specific Cal Hypo chlorinator plumbed in or use them in the skimmer. The main drawback of Cal Hypo tablets is that the main ingredient is Calcium so if you have hard water in your area using these will raise your calcium level up and may tip your pool’s LSI reading into the scale-forming category. They are also more expensive than Tri-Chlor even at today’s inflated pricing.

Liquid Chlorine:
Liquid chlorine is manufactured by HASA right here in the USA so there is currently no supply shortage. Liquid chlorine can be added manually during the week by simply pouring the desired amount directly into your pool. You can also use a liquid chlorine feeder like the HASA Liquidator. The Liquidator can hold 8 gallons of chlorine and it will slowly dispense it into your pool each day for you. Liquid chlorine contains no stabilizer or CYA and the only byproduct of liquid chlorine is sodium. So out of all of the available sanitizers, liquid chlorine has the least side effects in your pool water.

Salt Water Generator:
A Salt Water Generator (SWG) will produce chlorine for you right at your equipment pad. No need to purchase any form of chlorine and if you set it up correctly it will add the correct amount of chlorine to your pool daily. The only drawback to a SWG is the initial upfront cost which can range from $900-$1,600 depending on the brand and size of the system. You will also need a new salt cell on average every five years at a cost of $400-$900 again depending on the cell brand and the size pool it is rated for. With a SWG you are getting a convenient way of sanitizing your pool, but you will be spending more money over all of the above methods pretty much combined.

The bottom line is there are alternatives to Tri-Chlor tablets out there and you just need to decide logically which one is best based on your budget and the effects of each sanitizer on your pool water.

The CircuPool SmartFlo Vs Pump Overview

CircuPool SmartFlo Variable Speed Pool Pump is a solid pump for those looking for an affordable way to upgrade to a variable speed pump. It is super easy to set up and it is designed to be a direct replacement for a Pentair Wisperflo or Intelliflo VS pump. This basically means that you can swap out those two Pentair pumps with the Smartflo Vs with little or no replumbing. You can even use the existing unions for these two Pentair pumps and install the Smartflo VS directly in without any plumbing.

The CircuPool SmartFlo® variable-speed saltwater pool pump is a next-generation, ultra-efficient pump that can provide up to 90% energy savings over traditional swimming pool pumps! It features a super-duty Totally Enclosed Fan Cooled (TEFC) permanent-magnet motor and highly-engineered hydraulics, which deliver premium efficiency, long lifespan, and whisper-quiet operation.
Specifically designed to replace existing high-performance pumps, the CircuPool SmartFlo® has integrated programmable controls that make it completely customizable, making it a perfect fit for any type of pool.

Currently, they sell three different models with a THP of 1.5, 2.0, and 3.0. All three pumps do require 230 volts going to the equipment pad so be aware that if you a currently running 115 volts these pumps won’t work unless you run a 230-volt line to the equipment pad.

Let me touch again on the retrofit aspect of the SmartFlo Vs pump with a Pentair Intelliflo Vs or Wisperflo pump. If you currently have said a Pentair Wisperflo and want to upgrade to a VS pump the CircuPool SmartFlo Vs will line up perfectly at the same inlet and outlet position of the old Wisperflo pump. So you can essentially cut out your old pump and easily plumb a SmartFlo Vs in with Pentair unions or you can purchase new unions when you purchase the pump for $19.99. If the current Wisperflo has unions, simply unscrew the union and remove the pump. Then you just need to slide the SmartFlo VS in and attach the unions. A very easy upgrade at that point.

The SmartFlo Vs is backed by a 3-year limited warranty. 3-years on the pump shell itself and a 1-year warranty on the motor. Rest assured from the reviews on this product that you are getting a very durable and long-lasting product. The actual pump feels very solid and well made. I’ve reviewed many generic pumps and this one is impressive.

The controller on the back is simple to use and program and it comes factory shipped with the 4 speeds pre-programmed. So it is essentially a plug-and-play pump. For reference the pre-programmed runtimes are:
Speed 1- 2 hours at 3000 RPM
Speed 2 – 10 hours at 1500 RPM
Speed 3 – 2 hours at 2500 RPM
Speed 4 – 4 hours at 1000 RPM

The control panel features 4-speed buttons and a Quick Clean or Time Out button so you can easily start a speed or the Quick clean mode at the press of a button. The display is clear and easy to read making this a very simple VS pump to operate.

Contains 100 TesTabs tablets for each test
Lamotte part #2088

An added feature is the Blue tooth connectivity and the ability to email yourself or a client the test results on the spot while you are out in the field. You would just need the Waterlink Solutions Home or the Waterlink Solutions app to do this. Also provided in the app based on the test results are the recommend chemicals needed to balance your pool. The app works seamlessly on your smartphone and it is a great added feature that puts the ColorQ 2x in a premium category.

The unit is also 100% waterproof so it can be safely used outdoors and of course around pools and spas. A very nice upgrade over the previous version where you had to be careful not to get the unit wet.

Leslie's Pro Program: Wholesale Pricing and Customer Referrals!

I think one of the best keep secrets and very unintentionally is the fact that Lesli’s Pool Supplies also has a growing Wholesale Division. The difficulty in getting the word out is that everyone sees Leslie’s as a retail pool store. They get that. That is why Brian Agnew and Chad Christensen recently sat down with me to go over the ins and outs of Leslie’s Wholesale Division.

To help implement even greater rewards they also recently launched the Leslie’s Pro program in which wholesale pool shoppers can get added benefits above and beyond just wholesale pricing.

How to open an account:
Simply go into a local Leslie’s store – there are over 950 of them and ask the manager about opening a wholesale account. All you need is a business card basically and you are all set. If you want to be part of Leslie’s Pool Service Provider Program you would need at least $1 million dollars in General Liability Insurance. You can also open an account online by going to this link and entering your email address:

Wholesale Pricing:
Of course, the number one benefit of opening a Leslie’s Wholesale account is the fact that you get wholesale pricing. With over 950 locations purchasing your pool service equipment and chemicals couldn’t be simpler. The pricing lines up really well with other Wholesale outlets and you get the added convenience of getting in and out quickly.

Customer Referrals (Leslie’s Pro Program only):
As a Leslie’s Pool Service Provider (PSP) you get referred to any customers that need weekly pool service since Leslie’s does not do pool service. Note: you must spend $15,000 a year and have at least $1 million in General Liability Insurance to get referrals.

Discount on SPSPA General Liability Insurance (Leslie’s Pro Only):
As a Leslie’s Pro member you will receive discounts on your general liability insurance. See store benefit sheet for details.

Discount on Skimmer Software (Leslie’s Pro Only):
As a Leslie’s Pro member get a discount when you sign up for Skimmer pool routing software. This software will keep you organized, increase profits and allow you to do one push billing and invoicing each month saving you a ton of time and effort.

Longer Store Hours:
The store hours are also longer than your local wholesale supplier and they are open on Saturdays and Sundays. So shop for parts and chemicals 7-days a week and even stop by in the evening to get your supplies.

Free Water Testing:
You also get free water testing. Have a pool where the water test seems off? No problem, take a water sample in and let Leslie’s test it for you.

Free Cleaner Repairs:
Free automatic cleaner repairs. You just pay for the parts. No time to fix that broken cleaner on your pool route? Leslie’s will fix it for you so you can spend your time doing more productive things.

Equipment Installs:
Don’t have the time or the experience to do a pump or filter install? Leslie’s will install equipment on your service accounts and also offer extended warranties in many cases. Utilize this great resource and rest assured that no one will try to steal your service account (since Leslie’s does not do weekly pool service).

There really is no good reason not to open a wholesale account at Leslie’s Pool Supply. The managers are there to help you in any way they can and local Leslie’s Sales Reps will make sure that all of your needs are taken care of.

Jacuzzi JVS Pump Programming Guide

Ease of programming is the key to a successful Variable Speed pump experience. If you can’t easily program and set up your VS pump it kind of defeats the purpose of having such a cutting-edge piece of technology. Fortunately, the new line-up of Jacuzzi VS pumps is super easy to set up and program. If you watch the video I walk you through all the key points.

The control panel is set up with four easy-to-program speed buttons and unlike its predecessor, this pump features a programmable “Time Out” or “Quick Clean Mode.” A super important feature for the pool pro and homeowner alike. It also features a built-in Freeze Protect Mode so in low temperatures the pump will turn on and run to prevent damage from freezing.

You can pull up the programming instructions here as well:

Here is more on the JVS Line-up of pumps:
Jacuzzi has a new line-up of Variable speed pumps and they are now available at your local Leslie’s Pool Supply. These VS pumps have been designed with the new Department of Energy (DOE) regulations in mind and all of them meet the new standards. They also feature a lot of other upgrades and there are currently 3 models to choose from. There are the new Jacuzzi JVS Series pumps:

JVS270 is a 2.7 THP VS pump with a DOE rating of 12.9 WEF
JVS185 is a 1.85 THP VS pump with a DOE rating of 10.1 WEF
JVS165 is a 1.65 THP VS pump with a DOE rating of 10.7 WEF

All of these pumps are dual voltage which means they will work with either 115 volts or 230 volts. So if you have an older pool that is wired on a 110 v breaker, you can use any of these three pumps as the voltage is automatically modulated. I would suggest the JVS165 or the JVS185 to utilize the total hp rating of these pumps. The JVS270 will be throttled down to about 1.5 hp when connected at a 110 v breaker.

All three pumps are also automated ready so all you need to do is connect the Comm wires to your particular automated system. They come factory set to connect directly with Hayward Automation. For the others, you may need an adapter sold separately. But the simple fact that you can connect these pumps to your existing automation is a real game-changer.

They are also backed by a 3-year warranty and a 4-year warranty for the JVS270 so rest assured you are getting a quality product.

The pool pump can be the highest energy hog in your house, passing your Air Conditioner and Refrigerator just by the sheer amount of hours it runs each day. If you have a 1 ½ or 2 HP pump installed and you run it 8 hours per day, not to get into complicated conversions of kWh (Kilowatt Hours) and how you are charged each month by your Electric Company, just imagine it as having on Twenty 100 watt light bulbs every hour it is running. That is a lot of electricity each day and if your bill is tiered by usage, meaning the more you use the more you are charged, your bill can get very high very quickly. On average a pool pump will be about 40% of your total electricity bill each month.

So the best way to save money is to cut into your monthly electricity bill and that is exactly what a VS pump does. Simply put, your standard pump runs at 3450 RPM (Rotations Per Minute) which is about 1800-2000 watts. A VS Pump can be set to different RPM and at every lower RPM the total wattage used is lowered. So just lowering the VS Pump down to 2100 RPM, it cuts the watts down to 685 watts. At 2100 RPM the water will appear to flow just as strong as a standard pump running at 3450 RPM. Cut it down even lower to 1200 RPM and you are down to 165 watts. So instead of having twenty 100 watt light bulbs running you only have a little over one light bulb running each hour. This is the reason your electric bill can be cut almost in half by simply installing a VS Pump.

So if you are thinking of switching to a VS pump to save on your energy cost the Jacuzzi line-up would be a great choice.

Aiper AIPURY 1500 Cordless Robotic Pool Cleaner

Cordless robotic pool cleaners are the wave of the future and the market is pretty wide open for them at this point. Aiper is a company that has two other smaller cordless cleaners already on the market and their newest cordless cleaner is the Aiper Smart 1500 or AIPURY 1500. This is a surprisingly powerful and compact cleaner that works very well.

Note these things before ordering:
The run time is 90 minutes, so it is designed for a small to a medium pool. I would not use it in a pool over 14,000 gallons unless you are okay with running it twice to achieve a full cleaning. In the right size pool, this thing excels and cleans very well.

It spends some time on the walls and waterline so if you are not interested in a cleaner that cleans more than the bottom there is no way to set this cleaner for floors only.

If you have non-compliant flat main drains that stick up ½” off the pool floor this cleaner may get hung up on those drains. It all depends on the slope of the deep end and where these drains sit in your pool. I tested it in many pools and it only got hung up in one pool where the main drain and slope were close together. The cleaner would come off the walls and get stuck on the drain. It may not happen in every case with these drain types but be warned that it could.

Also, I have this discount code good until 4/31/21 to save $200 off the price on Amazon.
$200 off code: RC8IK4SI

Pool Service Pro, Do you Have a Retirement Plan?

I always like to do a quick recap when I reach these even number hundred podcast episodes. In this one, I thought I would address something that isn’t talked about much and that is the End Game. What goals are you working towards and do you have a plan when your career reaches its end?

A little about me:
I am a Pool Service Professional with over 30 years of practical experience. I currently maintain a pool route so I am right there in the trenches every day. I have extensive experience in water chemistry, automatic cleaners, pool filtration, pool equipment, and automated systems.

I work in Southern California and have been in the pool industry since 1988 with a brief hiatus in the late 1990s to buy and sell Real Estate.

Being financially independent has allowed me to freely share my knowledge with others through my videos and articles so that you can save money as you take care of your pool. I give out free advice to whoever asks and you can post a question or comment here, on YouTube, Facebook, or my blog and I will answer it to the best of my ability at no charge to you.

I am the creator of the #1 Swimming Pool Channel on YouTube which attracts viewers from within the industry and your typical homeowner who manages their own pool. My YouTube Channel Started in 2012 has over 89,000 subscribers and over 46 Million video views.

I have been married for 25 years and have a 13-year-old.

Back to the End Game. Do you have any plan in place for the future of your business and the future of your potential retirement? I know when you are young you don’t think about these things but one day you will likely get old. I turn 50 years old this year so I am on the other side of the tracks already. We started planning a little later and it wasn’t until we were in our early 30’s that we seriously looked at an End Game plan.

Real Estate is how we have been investing and we are currently acquiring our 5th property. We don’t flip the houses but keep them and rent them out. I have been a landlord in Southern California since 2001 giving me 20 years of experience. I have done everything from an eviction, fighting with the city planning/code enforcement department to removing a dead body. Being a landlord takes some getting used to and you do need to have some people skills. For example, I don’t raise the rent on my tenants every year and I have had some very long-term tenants – 5 years, 6 years, 8 years, and the like. Turn over and getting the place ready is the biggest issue so be keeping my tenant's long term I avoid all of that. I also make sure any issues are addressed right away to keep the tenants happy and paying on time.

But you don’t have to do real estate. You can just invest in Roth IRAs, Mutual funds, Investment funds, and other investments of these types that take very little hands-on operation. We just like real estate and the benefits of owning properties debt-free. The key is to find an investment you like and then to consistently put money into it year after year.

You also need to consider that as you get older your body will start to break down. You can’t service and clean pools forever. One way to extend the life of your service business is what I call Empire Building. Keep acquiring more and more pools and bring on an employee and then keep adding pool and employees until you reach a level where you don’t need to be in the field every day. This could mean 150 pools, 300 pools, or 1,000 or more.

Working for a company in the industry after you call it quits on your route is another option. Hayward, Pentair, Jandy, Leslie’s all look to hire former pool pros. They pay well and you may find the work on the other side of the industry very rewarding. It is something to consider and a way to continue to earn a good income and save on the wear and tear of your body.

Passive income is the way I plan to complete my End Game. Our goal is to have over $10,000 a month in gross rental income and we are close to being there. If you invest in the stock market you can also build up a substantial portfolio. The point of passive income is to create enough to replace most of the money you earn now so that you can retire comfortably without any money worries. A good retirement calculator can be found here:

Just enter your goal and what you already invest and in 2 minutes the site will let you know how you are doing.

The bottom line is it is never too early or too late to start planning. In fact, start today.

Emaux SSC Superior Salt Water System with Unique Built-In Timer

The Emaux Water Technology Superior SSC Series Salt Chlorinator is packed with some really cool features and is easy to set up and install. One of the coolest features is the built-in timer which is great for pools with a stand-alone VS pump, automation, and for setting a cooling down period for the salt cell.

This system reminds me of the Ecomatic salt systems that were very popular in the early 2000s when salt systems were emerging in my area. It has a similar salt cell connection and cell shape and size. The control panel is of course very advanced and it features two power modes. A standard “on” mode will turn the salt system on with the pool pump and a unique “Auto” mode that utilizes a build-in timer in some of the SSC models (SUC-T).  This “Auto” mode is very innovative and can be used alongside a stand-alone Variable Speed Pump.

In “Auto” mode the built-in timer will control when the salt system turns off and on. That way let's say you have your VS pump set to run from Noon-6 pm at a higher speed. You can set the built-in timer to come on at Noon and turn it off at 5 pm. This gives the system a 1-hour cool-off time which can prevent the white calcium type blow-back that is common with salt systems. This cooling-off period also allows water to pass over the cell plates and cool down the system rather than just shut off with the pool pump. Another advantage of the built-in timer is that you will not need a separate timer to turn the system on and off if you have it in conjunction with a stand-alone VS pump or pool automation. This is just overall just a unique and smart concept – the built-in timer should catch on in the industry.

If you are interested in ordering the SSC Superior salt system in the United States you can contact the US sales Rep at this email and they can get you a unit or as a dealer stock this unit for sale in your store or on your website.

Some of the things that I really like about the new JCRX is the overall compact nature of the cleaner. Small but mighty is a good way to sum this little guy up. The Double Helix brush on front is a beast with dirt and debris. And the tracks give this cleaner exceptional climbing ability. I also like how much time this cleaner spends on the tiles at the waterline. How to Get the Bag on a Riptide Vacuum

The Riptide Pool Vacuum System uses a unique type of bag that is designed basically never to blow off the vacuum head. One of the main issues you will have with the bags is that they can be hard to get on if you don’t follow the proper method. The good news is that once you learn how to get the bag on it will be super easy going forward. In fact, you may laugh later at yourself once you learn how easy it is to get the bag on.

The overall method is basic physics. If you are trying to force the bag on and breaking a sweat you are doing it wrong. If you look at the head of the Riptide Vacuum you will see that it has an edge or rim to it. The bag has a grove built into it. So how do you get the bag on without forcing the bag down over the rim into the grove?

The best way to get the bag on is to set the bag on top the vacuum and tilt it so that the grove on just one end fits inside the rim of the vacuum and then once it is set in there put both palms on top of the bag and then push it down, then slowly press down and work your palms back pushing down. The bag will slide into the rim very easily at this point. The video shows this in better detail so I would watch it to see the method performed.

Here is more on the Riptide Vacuum System:
The Riptide Pool Vacuum System made its debut in late 2016. Since then, it has gone through a number of transformations, with each one taking it to the next level a lot like Iron Man’s suit! The Riptide Circa 2021 is the finest version yet and it is packed with so many updated features it should have been called the Riptide SL 2.0.

Here are some of the great updated features:
High Torque Motor (uses rare earth magnets) High Torque Motor- Our new High Torque motor utilizes rare earth magnets making it the most powerful vacuum on the market

The cord -new protective external layer – it just feels so solid and durable

Cord Clip – secures the cord to the cart so no more worries of it falling off and dragging on the ground

Stainless steel endplates on the vacuum head

The cart is now e-coated before powder coating &t he Transport Rack Is e-coated now too - Electrostatic Coating- All of our powder coated parts are now electrostatic coated (ecoating) and then powder coated over. This makes the finish of our components much more durable.

Extremely high-quality integrated steering knuckle -Integrated Stainless Steel Steering Knuckle. This allows you to hook any pole directly up to the Riptide vacuum without the need for any adaptors while being effortless to maneuver in the water.

The SL model Riptides now include a Diagnostic/Tool Kit with a battery load tester, the load tester is essential for quickly determining battery condition.

The bags now have a different ring color to differentiate different microns.

The bags (100 Micron and below) are double layer now this feature is making the bags last much longer.

25 Micron Bag available (specialty dust bag) this bag can eliminate the need to system vac a pool with a dust problem.

Basically, the updated Riptide SL is the most durable vacuum system on the market today. The shell is backed by a 10-year warranty, the added steel plates to the vacuum head sides, the stainless steel knuckle, and the new beefed-up cord make it designed to last! The cart and transport rack has been given a stronger paint job thanks to the new Electrostatic coating!

Jacuzzi JSCS40 Salt System for up to 40,000 Gallons - No Acid Needed to Clean Cell!

I am a big fan of saltwater systems, known also as Saltwater generators (saltwater chlorine generators), and would recommend anyone who is interested in making their pool care easier to invest in one. There are a few things that make the new Jacuzzi JSCS40 Salt System and Cell for pools up to 40,000 gallons even easier. The cell can be cleaned by using an included plastic stick and no acid is required. I will say that again, no soaking in acid is required. The system also does not use a flow or temp sensor eliminating two common points of system failures.

Pool salt system and salt cell for pools up to 40,000 gallons
new 15,000 hours extended life plate
Clear cell housing to easily inspect cell plates
Clean with zero acid - cell plates are completely removable for easy cleaning
Easy to read design for the control unit
Heavy-duty custom cleaning tool included
Manufactured in the USA
3-Year Equipment Protection Plan Warranty

The metal plates in a Powerclean Salt cell are each individually powered. Competing products have plates crammed close together so that they can “share” electricity.

The improved design lets us spread the plates further apart. This makes them easy to clean by hand. The wider spacing also helps prevent mineral buildup that bridges between plates–mineral bridging can lead to permanent damage.

120/220V
(Ships 220V Ready)
10FT Cell Cord Length

WIDE PLATE SPACING
The wide cell spacing greatly reduces the build-up of calcium in the cell. It can be cleaned by hand without acid and with a simple included tool.

NO TEMP SENSOR
The Universal Sensor inside the cell constantly checks for proper temp conductivity, so no second sensor is required.

NO FLOW SWITCH
In most pools, no flow switch is required*. The cell checks for water conductivity with the Universal Sensor, and connecting to pump power or a synced timer ensures flow.

POLARITY SWITCHING
The cell plates change from positive to negative conductivity automatically for a self-cleaning effect that minimizes calcium build-up.

A CONTROL CENTER THAT IS BUILT TO LAST
Powerclean Salt control centers are tough as nails. Essential operations for every pool are included, with adjustable output levels and a chlorine boost option.

The system was originally designed in the hot environment of Phoenix, Arizona, the U.S.A, where temperatures regularly reach over 100 degrees. This system is the absolute best at operating in high temp environments without failure.

The control panel is kept very simple. You have four different chlorine levels to choose from, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%, and a Boost mode. There is no salinity sensor but this system can work fine even with high salt levels and it is a slight drawback that you will need to verify the salt level with a test strip or a digital meter. Again, the control panel is kept simple and easy to eliminate possible malfunctions. Simple is sometimes good when it comes to pool equipment.

Rudy Stankowitz Book on Swimming Pool Algae

Rudy Stankowitz is unique among experts in the field as he has actual practical pool service experience. You can really see this in his new book, “How to Get Rid of and Prevent Swimming Pool Algae” as he tackles the algae issue from not just the perspective of a chemist but as a pool service tech. You can order his book on Amazon from the link here and it is currently priced at $29.99:

Here is more about the book from the Author:
Great for anyone who takes care of swimming pools!
A MUST HAVE that applies to pools of any shape or size - you'll have fewer bouts with green, yellow, and black algae with this How to book on your shelf.

Use less chlorine without spending tons of money on costly treatments! Swimming pool algae is easy and super inexpensive to prevent when you know what to look for. Rudy shares tips and hacks that he has learned over his thirty years in the pool industry to help your pools keep that crisp, clear, Caribbean look.

All algae are not the same, and cookie-cutter treatments don't always work. Stankowitz takes the guesswork out of identifying what you are dealing with and matching the best treatment to the specific algae type.

An excellent book for both residential and commercial pools. Whether you maintain a single pool or multiple bodies of water on a route, the 'How to Get Rid of Swimming Pool Algae' book will be the most comprehensive guide on algae prevention and remediation you will ever own. Algae is the single most commonly encountered swimming pool problem noted worldwide, so we felt that it deserved a book of its own that did more than touch upon the subject. But, be warned, after reading, you may find that you have become somewhat of a Guru on the topic.

Beginning April 2nd, 2021, a Certification class to accompany the 'How to Get Rid of Swimming Pool Algae' book - taught by the author, thirty-year pool industry veteran, pool water chemistry expert, and award-winning instructor Rudy Stankowitz. The Algae Prevention & Eradication Specialist certification course will cover the book's material and then some. In both the publication and the class, you will learn:

Algae Myths
Environmental Factors
The Role Water Chemistry Plays
Conditions Different Algae Types Prefer
The Influence of Filtration & Circulation
Characteristics of Algae Species
Algastats and Algaecides
And More!

If you do pool service this is a great reference for you and I also think Rudy’s course to be a certified algae specialist would be a great way to set your pool service apart from the competition.

You can learn more about that course here and of course, you can also learn about Rudy’s CPO course:
