Proteus Robotic Pool Cleaner Line Overview

The Dolphin Robotic Pool Cleaners by Maytronics have been some of the top-rated cleaners on the market. The Proteus line of the Dolphin Cleaners are some of the best and they have three models the Proteus DX3, the Proteus DX4, and the Proteus DX5i. Each of these models is in different categories based on their various features. I will highlight the features of all three models for you so that you can decide which one is right for you.

Let me go over the general features that all three cleaners have in common first. One of the great things about the Proteus line of cleaners is that they all weigh less than 14 lbs. This allows for very easy transport and also makes them relatively easy to remove from the pool after the cleaning cycle is over. All three feature an advanced power supply with an easy to use on/off button and a weekly programmable cleaning cycle. You can set the cleaner to clean your pool once per week, 3 times per week or 4 times per week. A great feature to have in a robotic pool cleaner. All three are also top loading cleaners with a very easy to access debris basket.

Dolphin DX5i:
The DX5i is part of Dolphin’s Deluxe Class of Robotic Pool Cleaners. Here are some of the features.

The Dolphin Proteus DX5i now offers two cleaning cycles for added convenience. The one-hour cleaning cycle is ideal for a quick clean, particularly on the floor and cove. The two-hour cleaning cycle is perfect for a full cleaning coverage on floors walls and waterline.

Along with the same precise navigation and advanced 20-minute mapping of your pool, you can now control and drive the Proteus DX5i using the My Dolphin App on your smartphone. It also has an energy saver power supply with more functions than before, like touch-screen control and mode selection."

The Ultra Fine filter inserts are included in the box which to me is a nice touch. I find that these Ultra Fine filters are excellent and prefer them to the standard filters. I also like how fast the cleaner works. In less than 2 hours it will clean an average size pool and leave it spotless. The App is a nice touch but it is limited to turning the cleaner on and off and using it as a remote control for the DX5i. For the price, you are getting a complete cleaner.

Dolphin DX4:
Here are some features of the DX4cleaner.

“It starts by precisely spending the first twenty minutes scanning your pool to create the most efficient route, which helps to ensure that no spots are missed. The Proteus DX4 thoroughly cleans the pool floor, wall, and waterline.

This Dolphin Pool Cleaner also equipped with an integrated filtration system to remove dirt and debris. Simply choose from one of two filtration options: Fine filter for Spring cleaning and large debris or Ultra-fine Filter for small particles as tiny as 50 microns for a daily or weekly cleaning.

The Ultra Fine filter inserts are included in the box also. The DX4 is the exact cleaner as the DX5i minus the App connectivity and the 1-hour quick clean mode. If you don't need these two features found in the DX5i I would go for the DX4.

Dolphin DX3:
The DX3 is a great entry-level cleaner that has some premium features like a scrubbing brush, programmable timer, and floor to wall cleaning ability. Here are some more features of the DX3.

“The Dolphin Proteus DX3 Robotic Pool Cleaner focuses on delivering clean results and easy maintenance. The Proteus DX3 is constructed with a powerful suction that allows it to easily climb up the walls and seamlessly come back down.

It is equipped with an active brush that spins faster then the speed of the unit itself to scrub away dirt, debris, and bacteria. Once the net basket is full, simply empty and rinses clean. The Proteus DX3 also offers a quick water release, which makes removing the cleaner from the pool a breeze.”

The DX3 does not come with the Ultra Fine filter inserts but you can purchase an Ultra Fine Filter separately: Dolphin Ultra Fine Filter Basket 9991460-R1. It is an entry-level robotic cleaner but it has many of the features of a premium robot. The fact that it cleans the pool to the waterline and has a weekly programmable timer sets it apart from the rest in this entry-level category.
