SkimDoctor 2.0 Installation and Set-up

In this video I will show you how to set-up and install the SkimDoctor 2.0.  The SkimDoctor 2.0 is the new and improved SkimDoctor product with many new features not available on the previous version, the SkimDoctor 1.0.

The set up process is pretty easy and can be done in a few minutes. All you need is your existing skimmer basket - the SkimDoctor 2.0 is Universal so it will fit on almost all skimmer baskets.

Some of the features of the SkimDoctor 2.0 is the ability to unscrew the top to empty it out, non-rusting parts and the ability for it to work on a 1.5 hp or 2 hp pump.

In the video I also show the new Skimmer Socks available for the SkimDoctor 2.0 and how to install one. The Skimmer Sock actually fits on the outside of the basket, verses the traditional way of installing them on the inside of the basket.

I am a big fan of the Skimmer Socks (or filter socks as I commonly call them). These socks will help keep almost 100% of any particle debris from entering the pool pump and filter. I run a lot of my service accounts with a Skimmer Sock installed.

There is an included flange for larger skimmer baskets, most of the skimmer baskets here in Ca. are of the larger variety and require the flange. It is an optional part that is included and I recommend using it if you are unsure or if the SkimDoctor 2.0 doesn't fit snug on top.

One of the nice features of the SkimDoctor 2.0 is that there is a Vac Attachment or Vac Plate that can be screwed on top for manual vacuuming or for attaching a suction side cleaner to the skimmer. I will cover the installation of that in another separate video.

I have a separate review and overview video of the SkimDoctor 2.0 also:

Here is briefly how the SkimDoctor 2.0 works if you haven't see the review video yet.

"First, the slots in the inner tube of SkimDoctor 2.0 is partially responsible for speeding up the flow of water, precisely the flow of surface water, in your skimmer. By forcing water to flow through SkimDoctor’s narrow slot, SkimDoctor increases the top surface speed In more technical terms, when water moves from a wider channel to a narrow channel, the volume of the water that moves a given distance in a given time period does not change, however, the speed of the water increases. This phenomenon is called the Bernoulli principle and explains why water flows quickly in white water rapids when rocks narrow the width of the water channel. In addition, the SkimDoctor 2.0 tube itself forces water to flow around the tube in two directions, thereby narrowing the water channel, and creating a three-fold Bernoulli effect."

This is the installation and set up of the SkimDoctor 2.0 Vac Attachment. The Vac Attachment is an optional part that you can order for your SkimDoctor 2.0 to manually vacuum the pool or to connect and automatic cleaner to the skimmer.

I asked the manufacturer to create a separate product where you can order just the SkimDoctor Vac Attachment by itself, currently you need to order the SkimDoctor 2,0 and then order the Vac Attachment. I told them that some consumers will only want the Vac Attachment as they seldom take their automatic cleaners out of the pool and leave them attached all week long to the skimmer.  We will see when a specific Vac Attachment product only will be available.

The first thing you will notice with the Vac Attachment is that the elbow is hard to work with. It is designed to hold the hose firmly in place so you will really have to jam the vacuum or automatic cleaner hose on there. It does take some effort. Fortunately if your skimmer basket sits deep enough you can connect the automatic cleaner hose or manual vacuum hose directly onto the Vac Attachment itself without using the elbow.

For most skimmers if the Vac Attachment is on the basket flush and even, there will be enough suction to manually vacuum the pool without an inline canister.

What I really like about the Vac Attachment is the use of it for an automatic cleaner attached to the skimmer. All of the debris will be trapped in the skimmer basket avoiding your pump being clogged with debris. In my testing it worked fine without any adjustments or the need for the skimmer regulator for your suction side cleaner. There are a few skimmers that this may not work in, but for the majority of pools this will work very well.

The Skimmer Sock is a great addition to the SkimDoctor 2.0 and if you have an automatic cleaner connected to the skimmer this will add another level of protection for your pool pump. The Skimmer Sock will prevent particle debris from entering the pool pump basket.
