Starting a Pool Route: Basic Supply & Equipment List

In this article I go over the basic supplies and equipment you will need in order to start your pool route. It is a bit of an investment, but you want to start off well so that you run into less problems and make your day easier out there. That is why I recommend only the best equipment.

Starting with the chemicals you will need, I suggest going with liquid chlorine as your primary sanitizer. In the real world you will get in a situation where you will run out of liquid chlorine, so I suggest as a back up you carry a box of Pool Shock. Pool shock is easy to store and has a very long shelf life. It comes in handy in a pinch. Included on the list are two Pool Shock options.

The list also includes other essential chemicals that you will need for your route. These are the ones I use on a regular basis and these are 90% of the overall chemicals you will need.

On this list you will also find the equipment that I use. I only use the best equipment a
nd the prices reflect that. investing in the best equipment will save you money in the long run. If you go cheap you will be replacing equipment constantly, having things break at untimely moments and just add frustration to your day. I suggest just going with the best.

I also include some essential spare parts to get you started. Pump lid o-rings, filter tank o-rings and the like. There is no worse feeling than having to run to your local supplier and waste 40 minutes of your day just because you didn't have the part on your truck. I carry a complete pool store worth of parts on my truck – my only problem is that I spend 40 minutes looking on my truck for the part ;).

So spare parts are critical and you will know from the equipment and cleaners on your route what is essential to carry. I suggest pump lid and filter tank o-rings for all of the equipment models on your pool route.
