MX8 ELITE and AX10 ACTIVE Complete Wear Part Rebuild List
There are several wear parts in the Zodiac MX8 Elite and
although it may look challenging, changing out all of the wear parts is
actually quite easy. Within a few minutes, you can have your Zodiac MX8 Elite
moving again in your pool. Here is a look at the common wear parts for you.
Zodiac MX8/MX6 Track # R0526100:
This is the first thing I look at when I notice the cleaner is
not moving or turning well in a pool. The teeth on these tracks wear down over
time and it is the teeth that grab the Directional Device and move the cleaner.
If the teeth are worn down the MX8 Elite will basically not be able to move.
Zodiac MX8/MX6 Direction Control Device - Side A R0524700:
If the MX-8 Elite is facing you from the front where the silver
logo is, Directional Device A would be on your right side. This is important
because these parts are not interchangeable. Over time since the cleaner is
constantly moving and then changing direction in the pool, it makes sense that
these devices would be a common wear part. Changing these out is easy. There is
just one screw holding it to the body and one screw from the outside. If you
notice the cleaner going in a tight circle in one direction in the pool that
means one of the Directional Devices has failed.
Zodiac Barracuda MX8 Direction Control Device - Side B R0524800:
Same as Side A but this is the one located to your left if you
are facing the front of the MX8 Elite
Zodiac MX8/MX6 Drive Shaft Assembly # R0525100:
The driveshaft is a critical part of the MX8 Elite. When this
part wears down it cannot spin the Directional Device and the cleaner will seem
like the Directional Device has failed, but it could just be the Drive Shaft
not engaging because it is worn down. If you change a Directional Device and
find that it still does not move, check for a worn Drive Shaft.
Zodiac MX8/MX6 Engine Assembly # R0524900:
The Engine does wear out and you will notice the cleaner moving
much slower in the pool, or debris that wouldn’t jam it in the past may now be
stopping the cleaner. It is an easy part to change out and will get your
cleaner moving at top speed again.
Zodiac MX8/MX6 Wheel & Engine Bearing # R0527000:
Along with changing the Engine, changing these 2 bearings on the engine is also critical. Whenever I change out an Engine, I change these 2
Bearings as well.
Zodiac Cyclonic Scrubbing Turbine Kit 2 Pack R0714300:
It is best to change both of the Turbines at the same time. So
purchasing the kit is a good idea. This is the one wear part that is often
overlooked, but an important part of the cleaner. If the cleaner is moving
slowly this may be the reason. These are very easy to change.
Zodiac Cyclonic Scrubbing Brush, 4/PK R0714400:
These brushes are clipped into the Turbine and may seem like
they are screwed in. But if you simply pinch them near where they go into the
turbine you can pull them off.
Complete Rebuild KIT:
At some point, of course, you may need a new MX8 Elite but you can
keep rebuilding this cleaner for several years and I have one of the original
MX8 Cleaners still in operation. It is a matter of if it is worth rebuilding at
one point or purchasing a new unit. All of the parts are modular and affordable
so I suggest keep rebuilding your MX8 Elite for as long as you can.
