The differences among trichlor tablets can stem from several factors:</div><div>Concentration of Active Ingredient: Most trichlor tablets have a high concentration of available chlorine, usually around 90%, but there can be slight variations in the concentration and stability of the active ingredient depending on the manufacturing process. Some are 99% Trichlor by weight and others are not.</div><div><br /></div><div>Additives: Some trichlor tablets may include additives such as algae preventatives, clarifiers, or stain and scale inhibitors. These additives are designed to provide additional benefits beyond just sanitizing the pool. Some of these additives can clog up your chlorine feeder and make it inoperable. </div><div>Dissolution Rate: Manufacturers might formulate their tablets to dissolve at different rates to accommodate various needs. Slow-dissolving tablets are generally preferred for a steady release of chlorine, but there might be slight variations in how quickly they dissolve based on the tablet's density and binders used in the manufacturing process. Not all tablets dissolve equally. </div><div>Quality and Purity: The quality and purity of the trichlor tablets can vary between brands. Higher-quality tablets might produce less residue and have fewer insoluble fillers, leading to less maintenance and potential issues with your pool's filtration system.</div><div>Choose carefully to get your money’s worth. </div><div>Visit my Website: http://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/</div><div>eBook: https://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/swimming-pool-care-ebook</div><div><br /></div>David Van Brunt Swimmingpoollearning.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15725213022886040296noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5608549482946974904.post-18549332322818354172024-03-11T11:35:00.000-07:002024-03-11T11:35:00.135-07:00Common Saltwater Pool Problems<div style="text-align: left;"><div>Many things can go right with a saltwater system; having all green lights on your system display is golden. But, like any electronic product, things can go wrong at times. </div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="343" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/WdgavPlnOFk" width="481" youtube-src-id="WdgavPlnOFk"></iframe></div><br /><div><br /></div><div>Some of the most common issues are a dirty salt cell, not producing enough chlorine, and, of course, when the cell gets old, it stops functioning or generating chlorine. None of these are deal breakers, and each has an easy solution. </div><div><br /></div><div>One drawback is the constantly rising pH. It's partly due to the process itself and the chemical reaction and partly due to the turbulence of the salt cell. So, although you save on chlorine, you may spend more on muriatic acid to keep the pH in check.</div><div><br /></div><div>Some maintenance is required, like cleaning the salt cell, ensuring the salt level is good, and setting the output to the correct setting to chlorinate your pool. Still, for the most part, it is much easier than trying to maintain a steady chlorine reading during the season by manually adding chlorine to the pool.</div><div><br /></div><div>Knowing some things that can go wrong before you purchase a system is an important aspect that should be part of your buying equation. </div><div><br /></div><div>I am honest about the true benefit of a saltwater system: it adds chlorine to the pool without you having to do anything. This means no more trips to the pool store for shock or liquid chlorine. It is a great time saver for sure. But for me, that is the only benefit.</div><div><br /></div><div>With that said, a saltwater system is a preference. And if you can absorb the cost of the system and don't mind the extra overall cost of a salt pool, then it is the way to go. Who wants to add tablets and liquid chlorine or shock every week to their pool? You can set it and forget it with a Saltwater Generator connected to your pool equipment. Of course, some maintenance is required, like cleaning the salt cell, ensuring the salt level is good, and setting the output to the correct setting to chlorinate your pool. Still, for the most part, it is much easier than trying to maintain a steady chlorine reading during the season by manually adding chlorine to the pool.</div><div><br /></div><div>Upgrading is a personal choice you should make according to your overall pool care budget. Everything depends on how much you will spend, not worrying about adding chlorine to your pool each week. I have a Saltwater Pool, and I am so used to the convenience of it that I wouldn't be able to go back to a manual chlorine pool. Once you convert, you probably will not go back, either.</div><div><br /></div><div>Visit my Website: <a href="http://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/">http://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/</a></div><div>eBook: <a href="https://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/swimming-pool-care-ebook">https://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/swimming-pool-care-ebook</a></div><div><br /></div></div>David Van Brunt Swimmingpoollearning.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15725213022886040296noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5608549482946974904.post-37880629645178599962024-03-06T14:59:00.000-08:002024-03-06T14:59:00.306-08:00Some Extreme Swimming Pool Mistakes <div style="text-align: left;"> Besides the significant issues I mentioned in the podcast, some other things are not disastrous but still fall in the "big mistake" category.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="356" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Ibxb3YfVmd4" width="481" youtube-src-id="Ibxb3YfVmd4"></iframe></div><br /><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div>Failure to add water</div><div>This is the #1 failure I see daily. Many pools do not have an in-deck Autofill system, so it is up to the pool owner to add water to the pool each week. Newer pools have a safety feature in the skimmer to prevent the pump from running dry, but older pools do not. If the water is left low for a short period, leaks will happen, and the pool motor can burn out. This is one of the easiest things to correct, check, and add water to the pool weekly. In the Summer, most regions lose one to two inches of water each from evaporation. The ideal pool water level is right before the skimmer opening. The pool will stay much cleaner with the correct water level, and you will avoid expensive repairs.</div><div><br /></div><div>On the flip side is failing to turn the water off while filling the pool. This happens to almost every customer. Try setting your phone alarm or turning on your stove timer. I don't fill customer pools because of liability, but I will occasionally fill them if I am at a vacant property. I always set my truck keys on the fill valve so I don't leave the account with the water running.</div><div><br /></div><div>Not Emptying the Skimmer or Pump Baskets:</div><div>Just as bad as not filling the pool is not cleaning the skimmer or pump baskets every week. The debris can clog up either basket and prevent the pool pump from priming. This will also cause the pool not to filter properly and the water quality to suffer. It is a straightforward thing to do, and you should check and empty both the pump and skimmer basket each week. Also, I suggest adding a large rock to the skimmer basket as, in many cases, they will float up after the pool turns off, spilling debris everywhere – the rock will keep it down in the skimmer.</div><div><br /></div><div>One error I often see when the customer empties the pump basket is not filling the pump with water before putting the lid back on the pump. The pump will prime up much better with water in the pot area. Also, I have seen customers drop the pump lid O-Ring out onto the ground and put the lid back on without it. The pump will not prime without the O-ring on the pump lid. Make sure the O-Ring is on there and in good shape.</div><div><br /></div><div>Failure to Turn the Pool on:</div><div>If you have a stand-alone VS pump, there is a dedicated on/off button, and many customers will turn the pool off when using it – with this button. But it will remain out all week if you don't hit the on/off button when you are done using the pool. So, if you use the pool in the afternoons, I suggest programming it to run in the early morning and turning it off by 3 pm to avoid this issue. I see this often on my pool route and have also left a pool off by mistake all week – oops.</div><div><br /></div><div>Another similarity is when you use your attached spa and forget to turn the valves back to pool mode when finished. I can't tell you how many times I have gone into the backyard and seen a perfectly clear and sparkling spa and a cloudy or algae-filled pool. The spa was left running all week while the pool was off all week. So after using the spa, be sure to turn the valves back to pool mode to avoid leaving the pool off all week.</div><div><br /></div><div>Visit my Website: http://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/</div><div>eBook: https://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/swimming-pool-care-ebook</div><div>YouTube Video Index: http://poolmandave.blogspot.com/2014/03/swimming-pool-tips-reviews-how-</div><div><br /></div>David Van Brunt Swimmingpoollearning.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15725213022886040296noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5608549482946974904.post-80928805784176127522024-03-04T16:59:00.000-08:002024-03-04T16:59:00.280-08:00Manual Vacumming VS Vacuum Systems<div style="text-align: left;">Manually vacuuming your swimming pool and spa with a manual vacuum head and pool hose sounds simple and easy to do. Attach the vacuum head and hose, and you are good. But it can be a little more complex than that. I will be going over some do’s and don’ts in this article for you so that you can avoid making some typical mistakes.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="343" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/HyxCwAH5fhQ" width="477" youtube-src-id="HyxCwAH5fhQ"></iframe></div><div><br /></div><div><div>Vacuum System vs Manual or System Vacuuming</div><div> </div><div>Pros:</div><div>System vacuuming picks up both dirt and small leaf debris</div><div>Affordable</div><div>Easy</div><div>Effect</div><div>Cart Systems</div><div> </div><div>Drawbacks:</div><div>Time-consuming</div><div>Not suitable for large leaf debris</div><div>Everything goes into the filter unless you use a “waste” mode, but many filters don’t have a “Waste” mode.</div><div> </div><div>Vacuum System Pros:</div><div>Fast and effective with large debris</div><div>It is not suitable for dirt under 75 microns. Although there are finer micron bags, they are not designed for complete vacuuming but for spot vacuuming.</div><div>Convenient and easy to use</div><div>Dirt and debris go into a debris bag</div><div>You can purchase with a service cart</div><div>Professional looking</div><div> </div><div>Drawbacks:</div><div>Expensive</div><div>Heavy except the bottom Feeder</div><div>Not suitable for fine dirt</div><div>Requires maintenance and repairs</div><div>Can be stolen</div></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div>Let me outline some of the most critical don’ts so you won’t damage your pool or equipment. When submerging the vacuum head and pool hose, ensure all the air is out. This can be achieved by pushing the hose into the water hand-over-hand. You want to connect the hose to the skimmer suction line without any air in the hose. Air can cause the pump to lose its prime, and if you let it run for several minutes without water in the pump basket area, also known as the wet end, this could cause air leaks to develop in the system. Air leaks then lead to water leaks and a loss of pool suction. Making sure there is no air in the pool hose when you connect the vacuum is essential. While vacuuming, try not to lift the vacuum head out of the water when moving around obstacles or getting around the vacuum hose. When you lift it out of the water, it will suck large amounts of air in, causing the pump to lose prime.</div><div><br /></div><div>The next thing you never want to do is place the vacuum head directly over a main drain cover. The suction from the pump and the vacuum head attached to the top of the drain cover could cause it to get stuck on top of it. If you try to pull it off the drain cover, you could crack the plastic around the screwed-down area and inadvertently break the cover off. This will become a costly repair, so if you accidentally set the vacuum head on top of the main drain cover, try to avoid pulling it up and off. Instead, turn off the pump and move the vacuum head off the main drain.</div><div><br /></div><div>Using a cheap hose and vacuum head can also contribute to vacuuming frustration. A cheap hose will cavitate due to the pump’s powerful suction, which will cause the pump to lose its prime. You will know this is happening when you see the walls of the pool hose twisting and collapsing in on themselves when they are attached to the pool skimmer. If this happens, I suggest upgrading to a professional pool hose like a Smooth Bor brand.</div><div><br /></div><div>If your vacuum head is constantly getting stuck on the pool bottom, you are using an old or cheap vacuum head. A professional quality vacuum head is designed not to get stuck on the pool surface and is a worthwhile investment. The key to a successful experience is using professional-grade equipment.</div><div><br /></div><div>Vacuum Systems</div><div><br /></div><div>Riptide:</div><div>This is the Tesla of vacuum systems. Riptide is constantly innovating, and to prove that point, they scrapped their first version entirely and started over almost completely. They kept their vacuum head. The vacuum head comes with a 10-year warranty because it is that durable. </div><div><br /></div><div>The version you will get is as close to complete as it can get. The High Torque Motor (which uses rare earth magnets) makes it the most powerful vacuum on the market. The cord has a new protective external layer and comes in 40 ft or 60 ft lengths. The cart is now e-coated before powder-coating</div><div>The Transport Rack Is e-coated now, too- Electrostatic Coating- All of our powder-coated parts are now electrostatic coated (coating) and then powder coated over. This makes the finish of our components much more durable. Extremely high-quality integrated steering knuckle -Integrated Stainless Steel Steering Knuckle. This allows you to hook any pole directly up to the Riptide vacuum without any adaptors while maneuvering in the water is effortless. The SL model Riptides now includes a Diagnostic/Tool Kit with a battery load tester; the load tester is essential for quickly determining battery condition.</div><div><br /></div><div>Hammer-Head:</div><div>The Hammer-Head has been around almost as long as the Power Vac. The Vac head is shaped differently but has the same power as the Power Vac. You can get the standard 21” vacuum head or the more giant 30” one. For most service techs, the 21” vacuum head will work fine. You can also get the cord in 40 ft or 60 ft length, and the cart is probably the least refined of the big three. It is well-balanced and functional. </div><div><br /></div><div>ALL STAINLESS HARDWARE</div><div>FEATURING THE PATENTED SMART SWITCH™ (The new HH1062 Smart Switch comes standard on all Hammer-Head pool cleaning units. SMART SWITCH™ features include a motor-saving overload sensor, two speeds, and an automatic shutoff when the motor is out of the water for over a minute).</div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>Bottom Feeder:</div><div>Fast. Light. Powerful.</div><div>Finish vacuuming a pool faster and easier with The Bottom Feeder Professional-Grade Battery-Powered Swimming Pool Vacuum. This cordless portable pool vac is lightweight and easy to use, you can carry everything in one hand in only one trip from the truck to every pool on your route. With no hoses, long cords, or carts, connect the 1.5-hr. With a rechargeable lithium-ion battery, you are good to go. Weighing in at only 12 lbs., this compact, lightweight, battery-powered pool vacuum is the lightest commercial-duty swimming pool vacuum system available. </div><div><br /></div><div>The 18 lbs. thrust motor makes it effective at picking up leaves, twigs, small stones, coins, and finer debris. So, there is plenty of power.</div><div><br /></div><div>Visit my Website: http://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/</div><div>eBook: https://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/swimming-pool-care-ebook</div><div><br /></div>David Van Brunt Swimmingpoollearning.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15725213022886040296noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5608549482946974904.post-19491387822476749032024-02-26T14:57:00.000-08:002024-02-26T14:57:00.248-08:00My Go To Swimming Pool Water Testing Method<div style="text-align: left;"><div>Here is a rundown of the different testing methods for your pool and spa. Each method has their pros and cons and I find a variety of methods works best. </div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="355" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/KILnX4eIKEU" width="476" youtube-src-id="KILnX4eIKEU"></iframe></div><br /><div><br /></div><div>The Reagent Test Kits use a drop test, and when the reagent solution is entered into the water sample, a color change occurs. Taylor is the leading manufacturer of these reagent test kits, and you can also purchase an essential Pool Master Kit at your local pool store. The reagents can test for important factors like Chlorine, Free Chlorine, Total Chlorine, Bromine, Alkalinity, pH, Calcium Hardness, and CYA (Conditioner). These kits are easy to use and a great way to test your pool and spa water each week. The Taylor K-2005 and K-2006 are popular test kits.</div><div><br /></div><div>The drawback of the reagent test kit is user error. You will get a false reading if you don't add the correct number of drops. If the reagents are expired, you will also get an inaccurate reading. Like test strips, you match colors to get your reading, so if you need to improve at distinguishing colors, you will have trouble reading the correct results. But these are minor drawbacks, and as you gain experience with the Reagent Test Kits, you will get better at reading the right results. Some popular test kits are the Taylor K-2005 and K-2006, which I use on my pool route.</div><div><br /></div><div>Photometer Testers are gaining popularity, and they are the only test kit that will give you a spot-on reading of the test factors. The LaMotte Color Q 2X Pro7 & 2X Pro9 is a trendy photometer test kit, and the new Pool Lab 2.0 is also a great test kit. These kits operate when an electronic photometer reads the color spectrum of the reagent or tablet in the water sample. Since the photometer can read the exact color of the water sample, it can give you an accurate digital reading of the test factor. If you are doing a pH test, for example, it will give you the pH down to the exact level, like 7.5. This can't be done with test strips or the reagent test kits. These are great for Commercial accounts or homeowners struggling with color matching.</div><div><br /></div><div>The drawback with the photometer testers is the price point. Since they are more advanced, the price point is typically 3-4 times that of a premium reagent test kit. However, a photometer tester is suitable if you look for the most accurate test results without guessing the actual reading.</div><div><br /></div><div>One of the most advanced Photometer Testers is the LaMotte Spin Touch Mobile, which does 10 test factors in one minute! The price point is nearly $1,000, and each disk is $2.50. Still, it can do all of these tests in less than a minute and give you a digital readout of all of them: Free Chlorine (DPD) 0-15 ppm, Total Chlorine (DPD) 0-15 ppm, Bromine (DPD) 0-33 ppm, pH 6.3-8.6, Calcium Hardness 0-800 ppm, Total Alkalinity 0-250 ppm, Cyanuric Acid 5-150 ppm, Copper 0-3.0 ppm, Iron 0-3.0 ppm, Salt 0-6000 ppm, Phosphate 0-2000 ppb.</div><div><br /></div><div>Digital Testers can also give you unavailable readings with test strips and reagent testers such as Salinity, TDS (Total Dissolved Solids), ORP, Temperature, pH, and other factors. These are great and accurate testers and can expand the different test factors you can do in your pool and spa.</div><div><br /></div><div>Test strips are not only popular but very easy to use. Many different manufacturers make them, like AquaChek, Taylor, and LaMotte, to name a few, and you can find them just about everywhere, from your grocery store to hardware store and local pool store. You can also purchase them online, and many different types of strips are available for testing everything from chlorine and borate to copper in the water. The ease of use of test strips makes these great for beginners. Just dip them in the water sample and match the strip's color to the guide on the back of the bottle. The color matching is accurate and will give you a good range of the chemistry levels in your pool or spa.</div><div><br /></div><div>The drawback of the test strips is that you will get an approximate color match only sometimes. So, it is open to user interpretation, sometimes giving you the wrong results. For instance, you may think the color indicates the Alkalinity is at 160 ppm, but it is at 120 ppm because you didn't match the color correctly. You are only getting a ballpark reading with a test strip and not a spot-on reading that you would get with a Photometer tester, which I will cover later.</div><div><br /></div><div>Visit my Website: <a href="http://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/">http://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/</a></div><div>eBook: <a href="https://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/swimming-pool-care-ebook">https://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/swimming-pool-care-ebook</a></div><div><br /></div></div>David Van Brunt Swimmingpoollearning.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15725213022886040296noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5608549482946974904.post-18709262724202873932024-02-21T11:04:00.000-08:002024-02-21T11:04:00.238-08:00Rain and More Rain! - Effects on Your Swimming Pool<div style="text-align: left;"> The number one call I get during heavy Rain is that the pool looks like it will overflow into the yard and house. In most cases, the worry is unfounded, as the drains around the pool should be able to handle the runoff. However, there are times when draining is needed, and it is a good idea to have it set up with the customer beforehand.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="342" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/OIjlcWtbNhA" width="478" youtube-src-id="OIjlcWtbNhA"></iframe></div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>Teach the customer how to drain their pool to save a service trip. If there is a hose spigot on the equipment pad, usually above the pump, show them how to attach a garden hose to it and drain the pool. It is easy. Attach a garden hose, turn on the pool pump, and open the hose spigot. The pool will drain while the pump is running.</div><div><br /></div><div>Plan B would be to have the customer purchase a small sump pump (submersible pump) and use that to drain the pool down when needed. They can place it on the first step in the pool, attach a garden hose to it, and plug it in. It is easy, and you do not need to go out and drain pools all day if you set things up beforehand with your customers.</div><div><br /></div><div>Another common problem you will run into is mud getting into the pool. Making a pool a murky mess only takes a couple of pounds of dirt. In most cases, when a planter is right next to a pool and has a slope behind it, mud in the pool is unavoidable. It can take a few weeks to clear up a mud pool, so it is best to prevent it from happening in the 1st place. Have the customer get their landscaper to fix any planter or dirt areas. A good incentive is to remind your customers that dirt has a lot of iron and other metals in it, and this can lead to staining if a large amount of mud were to get into your pool. </div><div><br /></div><div>Another question I often get is when to go out in the Rain to service your pools. How much Rain is too much Rain? That is for you to decide, and a good rule is that if you can't even see the pool bottom, there is too much Rain, and it is useless even to go out. Typically, 1-2" of constant Rain is when I pull the plug. Rain of less than 1" is pretty easy to work in, so make the call based on common sense. </div><div><br /></div><div>If you expect Rain multiple times on your service day in two weeks, shuffle the service day to avoid a 3-week service gap. For example, if it is raining on a Thursday and you can't go out, but next week's heavy Rain is also predicted, skipping your Wednesday pools and moving the Thursday pools to Wednesday that week is lovely. And if it doesn't rain, you can always do your Wednesday pools that Thursday. </div><div><br /></div><div>Rain is a common issue, and there are ways to set up your pool route to deal with the effects of weeks and months of Rain.</div><div><br /></div><div><span style="background-color: white; color: #0d0d0d; font-family: Roboto, Noto, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; white-space-collapse: preserve;">Visit my Website: <a href="http://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/">http://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/</a></span><span style="background-color: white; color: #0d0d0d; font-family: Roboto, Noto, sans-serif; font-size: 15px; white-space-collapse: preserve;">

It has had its share of production issues, but rest assured that the newest version is the best.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="351" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/dMgAEGIOqcU" width="474" youtube-src-id="dMgAEGIOqcU"></iframe></div><br /><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div>To order: <a href="https://store.thebottomfeeder.com/">https://store.thebottomfeeder.com/</a></div><div><br /></div><div>The new LiFePO4 batteries are a lithium battery type considered the safest lithium battery type available. They have a long cycle life, high power density, and a wide temperature range.</div><div><br /></div><div>Safety: LiFePO4 batteries are considered one of the safest lithium-ion battery chemistries available. They have a stable chemical structure less prone to thermal runaway or combustion, making them a reliable choice for applications where safety is crucial.</div><div><br /></div><div>Long Cycle Life: LiFePO4 batteries have an impressive cycle life, capable of enduring thousands of charge-discharge cycles without significant capacity loss. This makes them ideal for applications that require frequent cycling, such as electric vehicles and renewable energy storage systems.</div><div><br /></div><div>With a 400-watt Power Inverter, you can quickly charge the bottom feeder while driving between stops. A 10-minute charge will give you seven minutes of battery life. You will want to use at least a 300-watt Power Inverter with the car charger adapter on end, and you can plug it into your car charger port (older cars' cigarette lighter port). </div><div><br /></div><div>If you prefer to charge it at home, it will take about 2 hours to charge the battery fully.</div><div><br /></div><div>The compact size makes this ideal for those pools that need more than a quick skimming but have too much debris for a traditional manual vacuum with a hose and a vacuum head. It is also great if you do not need the standard Vacuum System with the cart. The Bottom Feeder weighs just 12 lbs. and is fully assembled, including the battery pack. </div><div><br /></div><div>Here is what the manufacturer says about the Bottom Feeder: "The Bottom Feeder " is a revolutionary pool cleaning system combining innovative technology and lightweight flexibility. Powered by a long-lasting rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack, The Bottom Feeder requires no hoses or lines – which saves you time and gives you the mobility and flexibility needed to vacuum pools in minutes. Designed by professionals for professionals, The Bottom Feeder is durable and practical and vacuums in as little as 4″ of water."</div><div><br /></div><div>I like the portability of the Bottom Feeder. It is easy to carry back to my service accounts, and it takes less than 30 seconds to connect it to my pole and drop it into a pool. It is powered by an 18-pound thrust motor, which is less potent than a standard vacuum system but still very powerful. I only noticed a little power drop-off between the Bottom Feeder and my other Vacuum Systems. The Body is light and maneuverable, like using a standard manual vacuum head with the swivel on the handle. The great thing about it is that there are no hoses or cords, so using it couldn't be easier.</div><div><br /></div><div>The Bottom Feeder would be ideal for a homeowner with large debris in their pool each week. The compact size makes this ideal for use and storage. If you have a pool route and only a handful of heavy debris accounts, investing in the bottom feeder would save you time without needing a full-size vacuum system and cart. Overall, Carrying back to your service accounts is a convenient vacuum.</div><div><br /></div><div>Visit my Website: <a href="http://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/">http://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/</a></div><div>eBook: <a href="https://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/swimming-pool-care-ebook">https://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/swimming-pool-care-ebook</a></div><div><br /></div>David Van Brunt Swimmingpoollearning.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15725213022886040296noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5608549482946974904.post-79345542420260700382024-02-15T08:15:00.000-08:002024-02-15T08:15:00.154-08:00Suction Pool Cleaner Vs Robotic Pool Cleaner<div style="text-align: left;"><div><div>Robotic Cleaners:</div><div>A good Robotic cleaner with all the bells and whistles will usually run you over $1,500. It is quite an investment, but you get a good investment return. Today's robotic cleaners are much improved over the 1st generation, which came out a few years ago. The motors are more reliable and longer lasting; they can now clean the walls and tile line, and there are added features like a programmable cleaning cycle, remote control, and an anti-tangle cord swivel. </div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="355" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/jMUZoQ5FOWI" width="483" youtube-src-id="jMUZoQ5FOWI"></iframe></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>There are now cordless cleaners from significant manufacturers like Polaris and Dolphin. The cordless cleaners eliminate the cord, and I think the future of robotic pool cleaners will be the cordless type.</div><div><br /></div><div>Most higher-end Robotic cleaners come with a two or 3-year warranty. They are well built and reliable, and the manufacturer can offer a longer warranty since you will unlikely have to use them.</div><div><br /></div><div>Some of the benefits of a Robotic Cleaner are:</div><div><br /></div><div>It runs independently from your pool system, so your filtration system stays cleaner, and it doesn't matter if your equipment is old or not functioning well.</div><div><br /></div><div>There are no hoses to worry about, and once you</div><div>You can remove the Robotic cleaner and store it after cleaning the pool.</div><div><br /></div><div>They clean the pool very well in most cases -the more expensive models will even clean the tile</div><div>line.</div><div><br /></div><div>The negative factors are a high price point in most cases and the need to send it out for service versus fixing any problems yourself. Most now come with at least a two-year warranty, so that is not a deal breaker. They are highly reliable and effective pool cleaners.</div><div><br /></div><div>Suction Side Cleaners:</div><div>This is the most familiar and most popular type of cleaner to most consumers. A suction cleaner works off your pool's existing pump and is attached to the skimmer or a side/ vacuum port in your pool. Depending on the pool and type of debris, this can be the most effective and cost-effective cleaner type for you. Most suction-side cleaners retail for $400 or less.</div><div><br /></div><div>The suction side cleaner is the most popular on my pool route as they are affordable and effective, and there are many different models to choose from. In most cases, I suggest an excellent suction side cleaner since they are also easy to set up and repair when something breaks.</div></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>Outline</div><div>Suction cleaner:</div><div>Prices start at $200 for a good cleaner</div><div>Work constantly when the pump is running.</div><div>Great for dirt and small leaf debris</div><div>Easy to repair.</div><div>Suitable for all pool surface types</div><div><br /></div><div>Drawbacks</div><div>Not suitable for large debris</div><div>Hoses in pool</div><div>All dirt will go into the filter</div><div>It uses more energy as you will need to run the pump longer and at a higher RPM.</div><div>Not allowed in public pools</div><div>Large pools have poor coverage</div><div><br /></div><div>Robotic Cleaner:</div><div>Complete cleaning of the entire surface</div><div>Good for larger debris</div><div>Good warranty of 2-3 years</div><div>Can filter down to 20 microns</div><div>No hoses – that clean look</div><div>Independent from the pool filter</div><div>Energy efficient – can leave the pump on lower RPM all week long</div><div>Expensive when compared to suction cleaners</div><div>Usually, can't do repairs beyond brush and belt changes</div><div><br /></div><div>Visit my Website: <a href="http://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/">http://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/</a></div><div>eBook: <a href="https://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/swimming-pool-care-ebook">https://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/swimming-pool-care-ebook</a></div><div><br /></div></div>David Van Brunt Swimmingpoollearning.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15725213022886040296noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5608549482946974904.post-18000529178856810252024-02-12T15:41:00.000-08:002024-02-12T15:41:00.157-08:00State of the Swimming Pool Industry 2024<p> Many of you here participated in the survey and the results

This has led to recalls and shipping delays, which frustrated the customers. Glen Heffernan, the creator of the Bottom Feeder, goes over some of these issues in the podcast interview.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="352" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Iw_xBdAZrtY" width="481" youtube-src-id="Iw_xBdAZrtY"></iframe></div><br /><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>Some key takeaways are that the Bottom Feeder has a new battery that won't catch on fire but reduces the rune-time to 1.5 hours. To compensate for this, the new battery can fully charge in 2-3 hours, and you can also set it in your truck between stops so that you never run out of juice. The ability to charge the battery quickly will allow you to get even more significant run time over the previous battery, which took 8-10 hours to charge fully. If you service a standard-size route, this should be plenty of time each day. The battery is what makes the Bottom Feeder so compact and light. It attaches to your pool pole and rides behind the Body, making the battery pack submersible. </div><div><br /></div><div>The price point has also crept up over the past few years, and like everything else, that is due to part cost increases, labor increases, and other factors out of its control of Glen. Since each Bottom Feeder is made by hand, it is very labor intensive, raising the cost of making each unit and the cost of the new battery back. The good news is that the price should remain steady for 2024. </div><div><br /></div><div>Everything else is similar since the bottom feeder was already refined to be today's best portable vacuum system. </div><div><br /></div><div>The compact size makes this ideal for those pools that need more than a quick skimming but have too much debris for a traditional manual vacuum with a hose and a vacuum head. It is also great if you do not need the standard Vacuum System with the cart. Standard white plaster, Colored plaster, Quartz, Pebble Tec and Wet Edge.</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="346" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/7gvQh_-bj3w" width="454" youtube-src-id="7gvQh_-bj3w"></iframe></div><div><br /></div><div>Plaster is pretty common and is a surface type made with cement and white marble aggregate. The problem with white plaster is that any stain becomes very evident and in many cases and the color is effected by the pool chemistry. You can also go with a color plaster and this can make your pool really stand out and look great. The problem with the colored plaster is the Mottling or pattern discoloration is very apparent and visible over time. But it is still the most affordable pool surface type on the market.</div><div><br /></div><div>Quartz is a surface type that consists of a combination of a quartz aggregate and polymer-modified-cement making is more durable then standard plaster and giving it a longer lifespan. You can also get Quartz in a variety of colors and he finish holds up well against chemicals and is more stain resistant. It is a hard surface type that is very smooth and swimmer friendly. A great choice for sure and a step up from standard plaster.</div><div><br /></div><div>Pebble Tec is a well established brand and is a mixture of cement and small pebbles and stones. Pebble Tec is extremely durable and long lasting. There are a great variety of surface types and colors to choose from. The drawback is that the surface can be a little rough on the feet but it resists stains, looks great and uniformed throughout and lasts over 15-20 years. It is a more expensive choice but you can't beat the durability and look of Pebble Tec.</div><div><br /></div><div>Wet Edge is much like Pebble Tec but at the same time different. Mike Willard of Your Pool Builder in Texas recommends and uses the Wet Edge surface. Wet Edge aggregate finishes are durable and beautiful. All Wet Edge finishes are handcrafted and custom-made for each swimming pool. The finish is white cement based, but with blended polymers to make them denser and more durable. There are a number of different Wet Edge Surface types and you can learn more directly from their </div><div><br /></div><div>Of the different surface types the Wet Edge is the premium choice. But your budget might not make it the choice for your pool build so if you have to go down I would recommend going with a Quartz finish verses standard white plaster.</div><div><br /></div><div>Fiberglass pool surfaces are popular choices for swimming pools due to their durability, smooth finish, and low maintenance. Here are some key points about fiberglass pool surfaces:</div><div><br /></div><div>Material Composition: Fiberglass pools are made of reinforced plastic with fiberglass strands. The pool shell is created by layering fiberglass and resin in a mold.</div><div><br /></div><div>Smooth Finish: One of the main advantages of fiberglass pools is their smooth and non-porous surface. This smooth finish is not only comfortable for swimmers but also inhibits the growth of algae and makes cleaning easier.</div><div><br /></div><div>Durability: Fiberglass is known for its strength and durability. Fiberglass pools are less likely to crack over time compared to concrete pools, and they are more flexible, making them resistant to ground movements.</div><div><br /></div><div>Low Maintenance: Fiberglass pools generally require less maintenance than other types. The smooth surface helps prevent the buildup of algae and other contaminants, reducing the need for frequent cleaning and chemical treatments.</div><div><br /></div><div>Installation Time: Fiberglass pools are often quicker to install compared to concrete pools. The pool shell is pre-manufactured and delivered to the site, making the installation process more efficient.</div><div><br /></div><div>Cost: While the initial cost of a fiberglass pool may be higher than that of a vinyl liner pool, it is often comparable to or lower than the cost of a concrete pool. Additionally, the lower maintenance requirements can lead to cost savings over time.</div><div><br /></div><div>Design Options: Fiberglass pools come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and some manufacturers offer customization options. However, the design choices may be more limited compared to concrete pools.</div><div><br /></div><div>Resistant to Stains: Fiberglass surfaces are less prone to staining than other pool surfaces. This is beneficial in maintaining the pool's aesthetic appeal.</div><div><br /></div><div>Vinyl pool surfaces are another common option for swimming pools, offering their own set of advantages and considerations. Here are some key points about vinyl pool surfaces:</div><div><br /></div><div>Material Composition: Vinyl pools have a flexible liner made of vinyl material that is installed over the pool's structure, which is typically made of metal, wood, or concrete.</div><div><br /></div><div>Smooth and Non-Porous: Like fiberglass, vinyl pool surfaces are smooth and non-porous. This smooth surface is comfortable for swimmers and helps resist algae growth.</div><div><br /></div><div>Affordability: Vinyl pools are often more affordable upfront compared to fiberglass and concrete pools. This makes them a popular choice for homeowners on a budget.</div><div><br /></div><div>Versatility in Design: Vinyl pool liners come in a variety of patterns, colors, and designs, providing flexibility for customization. This allows pool owners to achieve a specific aesthetic that suits their preferences.</div><div><br /></div><div>Comfortable Surface: The vinyl liner provides a softer and more comfortable surface for swimmers compared to concrete. This can be particularly appealing for families with children.</div><div><br /></div><div>Easy to Install and Repair: Vinyl pool liners are relatively easy to install and can be replaced or repaired more easily than other pool surfaces. However, they are susceptible to punctures or tears, which may require patching or replacement.</div><div>Limited Lifespan: Vinyl pool liners have a limited lifespan compared to fiberglass or concrete surfaces. They typically last around 10 to 15 years before needing replacement.</div><div><br /></div><div>Maintenance Requirements: Vinyl pool surfaces require regular maintenance to ensure longevity. Proper water chemistry and balanced pool maintenance are essential to prevent issues such as liner fading or damage.</div><div><br /></div><div>Susceptibility to Sharp Objects: While vinyl is durable, it can be punctured or torn by sharp objects. Care should be taken to avoid introducing sharp items into the pool.</div><div><br /></div><div>Resilience to Freezing Conditions: Vinyl pools are less prone to cracking in freezing conditions compared to concrete pools. However, precautions should still be taken to winterize the pool properly.</div><div><br /></div><div>Visit my Website: <a href="http://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/">http://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/</a></div><div>eBook: <a href="https://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/swimming-pool-care-ebook">https://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/swimming-pool-care-ebook</a></div><div><br /></div>David Van Brunt Swimmingpoollearning.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15725213022886040296noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5608549482946974904.post-13021084407701593352024-01-24T16:15:00.000-08:002024-01-24T16:15:00.141-08:00Is Pool Service a Growing Industry? <div style="text-align: left;"> Is swimming pool service a good business in 2024? The answer is YES! for many reasons. Scott Roberts from National Pool Route Sales discusses some of these reasons for you in our podcast interview. With close to 11 million pools across the nation, there are plenty of clients.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="357" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/4IA9dR8y_7w" width="480" youtube-src-id="4IA9dR8y_7w"></iframe></div><br /><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div>So, how do you get started in the business? You can get a truck, open an account at Leslie's Pool Supplies, and receive wholesale pricing. Or open an account at PoolCorp, the parent company of SCP and Superior Pool Products, and get your equipment and chemicals at wholesale pricing. Then, you can solicit accounts to service. This is a hard way to get started, but it is doable if you start part-time and build up a route while working at another job. Over time, you can build up a good business. You can also work for a pool company and learn the trade for a year or two. This is also a suitable method; you can learn a lot that will help you later when you are alone. </div><div><br /></div><div>You can also purchase a full or partial pool route from a Pool Service Broker. You are buying pools in your area. If you have the money to invest, this is a fantastic way. Look at it like purchasing a business. If you started building a pool route from scratch and already know the trade, this is a beautiful way to make your route bigger and bring in more income. In many cases, buying pools makes sense. </div><div><br /></div><div>National Pool Route Sales: <a href="https://poolroutesales.com/">https://poolroutesales.com/</a></div><div><br /></div><div>A book I read years ago helped me and might help you also. It is called The Go-Getter: A Story That Tells You How to Be One by Peter B. Kyne. It was first published in 1921. This book will give you a good lesson on what it takes to be successful.</div><div><br /></div><div>You can learn the trade by watching my YouTube videos and by taking courses in your local area if they are offered. A fantastic way to ensure you are qualified and ready is to get CPO or Residential Certified through Bob Lowry's course.</div><div><br /></div><div>People skills are essential because you are running a service business and are providing specific "work" in return for payment. You are not selling a product; the product is you and the service you provide. So, you will make mistakes, customers will get mad, and you will need to develop good people skills.</div><div><br /></div><div>Good, solid business skills are essential. You are in business to make money and not just out there "spinning your wheels." So, it would help if you learned how to draw up a business plan that includes charging enough per pool so that you turn a profit. Service prices vary from region to region, so it is up to you to set the best price for your area. </div><div><br /></div><div>Getting your finances in order is a fantastic way to get your business finances in order. A great resource I used successfully was the Dave Ramsey plan to become Debt Free myself. Learning how to run your finances is critical, and you must manage your finances to manage your business finances.</div><div><br /></div><div>Be an honest person. Being a person of Integrity takes a lot of effort. As a youngster, I was never taught the value of honesty, so I had to learn it as an adult. If you lie to your customers and they find out, your reputation will be damaged. And in the service business, your reputation is everything.</div><div><br /></div><div>It would help if you have a good liability insurance policy. This will protect you from lawsuits if you make a mistake that damages the customer's property or person. For instance, you add water to the customer's pool and forget to turn it off. It floods their house and causes $30,000 in damage. They sue you for $30,000, and you are out of business. Instead, get a policy for less than $80 a month that will transfer the risk from you to the insurance company. It makes good business sense, and you will sleep better at night.</div><div><br /></div><div>Visit my Website: http://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/</div><div>eBook: https://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/swimming-pool-care-ebook</div><div><br /></div>David Van Brunt Swimmingpoollearning.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15725213022886040296noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5608549482946974904.post-114425436725745742024-01-22T09:11:00.000-08:002024-01-22T09:11:00.245-08:00REVDUP Apparel - Take Your Pool Service Uniforms to the Next Level!<div style="text-align: left;"><div>I am a big fan of uniforms for your pool service business. It makes you look more professional, and having multiple employees can make the customer feel more comfortable when an unknown employee enters their property. They are wearing your shirts, so they should be okay. </div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="340" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/l_vNDTaKCi4" width="455" youtube-src-id="l_vNDTaKCi4"></iframe></div><br /><div><br /></div><div> </div><div>These jersey uniforms from REVEDUP Apparel are the perfect uniform for pool service. The fully sublimated jersey is made of UPF50+ with MaxDri Moisture Management – Content: 100% polyester and thoroughly cleaned, which refers to fusing a design into the fabric using heat and ink. The process is called sublimation, a digital printing technology that uses heat and pressure to turn a solid into a gas without going through the liquid phase.</div><div> </div><div>In other words, this is not a silk screen; the print is part of the material in the jersey itself. This means these shirts will be durable and very long-lasting. I also found the material to be hot and breathable simultaneously, and these jerseys are very comfortable to wear. </div><div> </div><div>Order yours today at: <a href="https://stores.inksoft.com/REVDUPAPPAREL/shop/home">https://stores.inksoft.com/REVDUPAPPAREL/shop/home</a></div><div> </div><div>Some other great reasons to get uniforms for your business:</div><div> </div><div>Consistency: Uniforms create a consistent and cohesive look among employees. This consistency reinforces a sense of unity and professionalism, making it easier for customers to identify and approach employees.</div><div> </div><div>Brand Image: Uniforms serve as a visual representation of your brand. By incorporating company colors, logos, and specific designs, uniforms help reinforce your brand image and create a lasting impression on customers.</div><div> </div><div>Professionalism: The very act of wearing a uniform imparts a professional appearance. It sets a standard for how employees present themselves in the workplace, fostering a sense of responsibility and accountability.</div><div> </div><div>Employee Morale: Wearing a uniform can instill a sense of pride and belonging among employees. It eliminates concerns about dress code decisions, promotes equality, and helps build a team-oriented environment.</div><div> </div><div>Professionalism in Client Interactions: For businesses that involve direct client interactions, uniforms can enhance the professionalism of these interactions. This is one of the most critical factors in your pool care and one of the main problems with water quality. If the filter is dirty or running poorly, water quality will suffer. You will be adding chemicals, running the pool for long hours, and still wonder why the water is cloudy.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="328" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/bw96iISeuUY" width="476" youtube-src-id="bw96iISeuUY"></iframe></div><br /><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div>The pool filter also looks intimidating to the new owner, and many don’t feel comfortable cleaning and maintaining it. One of the first things I do when I get a new service account is to inspect and clean the pool filter. About 80% of all problems you will encounter with your pool care are filter-related. So, the filter may be the issue if your pool has constant cloudy water and algae or the chemicals do not hold weekly.</div><div><br /></div><div>Interestingly, many pool builders skimp on the filter size when they install a pool. It can’t cost them more than $200-$300 more in the pool price to install a full-size filter. What I mean by full size is that if your pool is 15,000 gallons, you should have a 300-400 sq. ft. Cartridge filter of a 48 sq. ft. D.E. Filter installed. For a 20,000 to 25,000-gallon pool, a 500 sq ft cartridge filter or a 60-100 sq. ft. D.E. Filter would be best. I would avoid a Sand Filter unless the pool is used for Commercial purposes, like an Apartment Complex or Hotel. They wouldn’t be my first choice for a residential pool. I see many 15,000-gallon pools with a 100 sq. ft. Cartridge Filter, which is just too small for the best water quality.</div><div><br /></div><div>Cleaning the filter is quite simple, and I have videos on cleaning most pool filters on my YouTube Channel. Once you do it, you will not find it that difficult. Avoid these common mistakes with a D.E. Filter:</div><div>I am not adding D.E. after cleaning or backwashing the filter. Add more D.E. for the filter size.</div><div>Adding too much D.E.</div><div>Do not clean the filter at least every six months.</div><div>Operating the filter with torn or broken grids.</div><div><br /></div><div>For Cartridge filters, here are some common mistakes to avoid:</div><div>We need to clean the filter more often.</div><div>Using old cartridges in the filter (usually, when the bands break, it is time for a new cartridge – or if the wrinkles are spread apart – the media should be tight).</div><div>Use an undersized Cartridge filter for your pool.</div><div>Adding D.E. to the filter (Cartridge filters do not require D.E.).</div><div><br /></div><div>Here are some common Sand Filter errors:</div><div>You have a pump that is too large for your filter size (a massive H.P. pump like a 1.5 or 2 H.P. pump will cause the filter to run poorly – Sand Filters run better with less water flow).</div><div>Backwashing too often (Sand filters run better when dirty. Don’t backwash unless the filter PSI gets 9-10 lbs. above the clean reading).</div><div><br /></div><div>You are notRunning your pool short enough (Since Sand Filters are less efficient, the pool may need a longer run time).</div><div><br /></div><div>So, focusing on the filter is one way to ensure a clean pool with crystal-clear water each week. Along with having a clean filter is having a clean pool. I suggest investing in professional cleaning equipment, such as a suitable vacuum hose, vacuum head, and a sturdy pool pole. High-quality equipment ensures the pool will be adequately maintained each week, which also helps with the overall pool filtration and water quality.</div><div><br /></div><div>Visit my Website: <a href="http://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/">http://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/</a></div><div>eBook: <a href="https://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/swimming-pool-care-ebook">https://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/swimming-pool-care-ebook</a></div><div><br /></div>David Van Brunt Swimmingpoollearning.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15725213022886040296noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5608549482946974904.post-81207940625949357952024-01-15T13:36:00.000-08:002024-01-15T13:36:00.239-08:00Beatbot AquaSense Pro Cordless Robot Cleans Floors, Walls, Waterline, and Surface! <div style="text-align: left;"><div>About Beatbot</div><div>Beatbot is a technology brand dedicated to</div><div>the global robotization of swimming pool environments. Price increases are a great way to offset these costs, and over 64% of businesses of all types across the US have raised prices for their customers. Another way you can save on chlorine is by adding an enhancer to every pool on your route.</div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="342" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/FdryBUGYpGo" width="485" youtube-src-id="FdryBUGYpGo"></iframe></div><br /><div><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>There is no industry standard when referring to the following products but I like to call them enhancers since they enhance the effectiveness of the chlorine in a pool. I've heard the term chlorine enhancer used, which is a good way to look at these products. Adding one or more of these enhancers will allow you to use less chlorine, thereby lowering your overall chemical cost on your pool route. </div><div><br /></div><div>Phosphate and Enzymes:</div><div>This one-two punch can be highly effective in allowing the chlorine to work in the pool on the things it intended and not be “used up” by phosphates and non-living organics.</div><div><br /></div><div>Instead of getting technical and trying to teach a science class explaining how enzymes work, we will try to break it down more simply. Enzymes break non-living things down into smaller and smaller bits. Many non-living things are in pool and spa water; body oils, sweat, cosmetics, and sunscreens. This frees up the chlorine to work on the things it was intended to fight, like viruses and bacteria, instead of being wasted on these non-living organics. </div><div><br /></div><div>Phosphate reducers are specialty chemicals used to remove phosphates from pool water. They are typically salts of aluminum or lanthanum, which, when added to water, produce insoluble phosphate compounds, which are removed through filtration, vacuuming, or both. It creates an ION exchange, causing the phosphates to drop, and they can be vacuumed and filtered out of the pool. Phosphates are food for algae, and by eliminating them from the water, you eliminate at least one major food source for algae. This will prevent algae growth, which is a big reason why the chlorine level drops rapidly in some pools. </div><div><br /></div><div>PoolRX and Mineral Systems:</div><div>Using the PoolRX on your pool route will save you time and money. The manufacturer's claim of saving 20-30% on chemical costs is not far-fetched, and once you try a PoolRx in one of your accounts, you will be surprised by its effectiveness.</div><div><br /></div><div>PoolRx is a Mineral Technology that does two very simple things when used in your pool or spa: it eliminates all algae and will allow you to use less chlorine during the pool season. The active ingredient is Copper Sulphate Pentahydrate (chelated). By eliminating algae growth, the chlorine is automatically freed up and will last longer in a pool. Mineral technologies like the Frog and Nature2 also use minerals (metals) to prevent algae. </div><div><br /></div><div>Borates:</div><div>Borate in the water at 50 ppm helps reduce chlorine usage by eliminating Carbon Dioxide and keeping the pH stable. Chlorine lasts longer when the pH is right at 7.6-7.8. When the chlorine is in the ideal range, the killing element in chlorine, the HOCI, is at the most balanced percentage, so the chlorine in a pool with a pH of 7.4 is 30% more effective than in a pool with a pH of 8.0. This is a significant factor in creating the safest swimming environment, and the borates will keep the pH much more stable and, in turn, make the chlorine much more effective.</div><div><br /></div><div>The pH won't change much in a pool with Borate in it. So, if you have a Saltwater Pool, this is a must since the pH tends to rise dramatically. In fact, in a Saltwater Pool, the pH can rise to over 8.4 very rapidly. You will find yourself putting tons of acid in each week just to keep the pH below 7.8. Borates in the pool will make the pH stable and easy to control. It is a must for a pool with a Saltwater Generator. It also will keep your salt cell from building up calcium rapidly since it sequesters the Calcium in the water. This means the salt cell will remain clean, and your salt system will run much more efficiently.</div><div><br /></div><div>Boric Acid is a known Bio stat. This prevents the algae cells from forming and multiplying. Thus, a pool with a borate level between 30 and 50 ppm will prevent algae growth. Since borate prevents the algae cell from growing, algae blooms will be a thing of the past. No more algaecides or shocking the pool, algae just won’t grow in your pool any longer.</div><div><br /></div><div>Any one of these or a combination of these will save you money on your pool route by reducing the amount of chlorine you will be using from week to week. With chlorine at such high prices, using an enhancer to offset the cost makes sense. Liquid Chlorine or Bleach is the most common and least expensive of the available sanitizers. The acceptable range is 1.5 - 3 ppm, though 4 - 5 ppm is good. A commercial spa should be maintained at much higher levels - 5 - 6 ppm. Bob Lowry has the Target at 3.0 ppm, so always aim for that for your residential pool.</div><div><br /></div><div>A residential pool should be maintained at 3.0 ppm. Higher levels ( 4 - 5 ppm) should be established before a large party or heat spell. Try not to allow the groups to drop below three ppm, as this will prevent the need to shock or take other corrective action after the party.</div><div><br /></div><div>ALKALINITY 90 ppm</div><div>There are a number of factors that contribute to the "balance of the water." The most important are the pH and the Alkalinity. Alkalinity is the ability of the water to buffer the pH (or buffer chemicals that may affect the pH). The Alkalinity is like an auto-pilot or cruise control for the pH.</div><div><br /></div><div>If the Alkalinity is out of the acceptable range, then any tiny factor will cause a wild swing in the pH. This is called "pH bounce." Because of this, the Alkalinity is the first thing that should be brought into line when balancing the water.</div><div><br /></div><div>An ideal range for the Alkalinity is 100-120 ppm (though 80 - 140 ppm is acceptable).</div><div><br /></div><div>pH 7.5</div><div>The pH of the water determines if it is acidic or basic. Either extreme can have disastrous effects on the pool finish, equipment, or plumbing. When the pH is out of range, bathers may complain of eye discomfort or other ailments.</div><div><br /></div><div>An acidic pH will cause the water to become aggressive. It will etch the plaster and cement finishes around the pool. Worse yet, it will dissolve the metallic components of the pool. The copper heat exchanger within the pool heater is the most expensive metallic component.</div><div><br /></div><div>The ideal range for the pH is 7.4 - 7.6 (though 7.2 - 7.8 is acceptable).</div><div><br /></div><div>HIGH OR LOW TOTAL ALKALINITY:</div><div>Total Alkalinity will determine the speed and ease of PH change.</div><div>If the starting PH is 7.6 in a 15,000-gallon pool and the Alkalinity is 120 ppm, adding 1 pint of Muriatic Acid will drop the PH to 7.0 and the Alkalinity to 105.</div><div>If the starting PH is 7.6 in a 15,000-gallon pool and the Alkalinity is 60 ppm, adding 1 pint of Acid will drop the PH to 6.7 and the Alkalinity to 26 ppm.</div><div>So, keeping the Alkalinity in the excellent range of 80-120 ppm is essential. Alkalinity determines the water's ability to neutralize the Acid.</div><div><br /></div><div>Low Alkalinity will cause:</div><div>Etched Plaster</div><div>Corroded Metals</div><div>Stained plaster</div><div>PH to creep, drift lower</div><div>Eye & skin irritation</div><div><br /></div><div>High total Alkalinity will cause:</div><div>Scale formation</div><div>Cloudy water</div><div>Difficulty changing PH or the PH will drift up</div><div>Eye & skin irritation</div><div><br /></div><div>So, to adjust high alkalinity, you want to use muriatic acid or dry acid. When doing this, it is essential to test the acid demand before lowering the total Alkalinity. Never add more than ½ gallon of Acid, and don't add Acid more than three times in one day.</div><div>If the total Alkalinity is high in a matter of hours, the PH will rise. This happens because high total Alkalinity will neutralize the Acid. High Alkalinity will create a constant high acid demand.</div><div><br /></div><div>RAISING Total Alkalinity:</div><div>Use SODIUM BICARB (Alkalinity Up {Baking Soda]) to raise Alkalinity without raising the PH. Soda Ash will raise both at the same time. 20 oz of Alkalinity Up will raise your Alkalinity by ten ppm (10,000 gallons).</div><div><br /></div><div>One final note: the type of Sanitizer you use will determine your total Alkalinity level.</div><div><br /></div><div>If you use Trichlor 3" tablets, gas chlorine, or bromine, the Alkalinity should be kept in a higher range as each time these are added, it will lower the total Alkalinity.</div><div>A neutral sanitizer like Dichlor (granular chlorine) will not raise or lower total alkalinity, so keep it at 100 ppm.</div><div>High PH sanitizers like liquid chlorine and cal hypo (shock) will raise your pH and total alkalinity, so keep them in the low range of 80-100 ppm.</div><div> </div><div>Cyanuric Acid (Conditioner) 50 ppm</div><div>You add this to your pool water to protect the chlorine from being burned off rapidly from the Sun's UV rays. The chlorine will only last hours without Cyanuric acid (CYA) in your pool water. The chlorine can last 5-10 times longer with the proper level. </div><div> </div><div>The ideal range is 30-50 ppm, although it is okay if it is 80-100 ppm. If it is any higher, the chlorine becomes less effective, and you will need more significant amounts of sanitizer in the water to maintain the chlorine level. </div><div> </div><div>Note that Trichlor tablets and Dichlor will both add significant amounts of CYA to your pool water. Limit the use of these, or your CYA can rise above 150 ppm or higher in one season.</div><div> </div><div>Calcium Hardness 350 ppm</div><div>Your water source mainly determines this. The pool's calcium hardness will be high if your fill water is hard. The Ideal range varies with surface type, but 200-400 ppm is acceptable. </div><div> </div><div>If your Hardness is low:</div><div>Water balancing will be difficult</div><div>Etching of plaster</div><div>Corrosion of pool equipment</div><div>Eye and skin irritation</div><div>Foaming</div><div> </div><div>To raise the calcium hardness, add calcium chloride.</div><div> </div><div>High Hardness:</div><div>Scale formation on pool and equipment</div><div>Cloudy water</div><div>Eye & skin irritation</div><div>Water balancing will be difficult</div><div> </div><div>To lower calcium hardness, you will need to drain all or some of the water and refill the pool.</div><div><br /></div><div>Visit my Website: http://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/</div><div>eBook: https://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/swimming-pool-care-ebook</div><div><br /></div>David Van Brunt Swimmingpoollearning.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15725213022886040296noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5608549482946974904.post-68906776406442273782024-01-03T11:20:00.000-08:002024-01-03T11:20:00.133-08:00EASY Swimming Pool Variable Speed Pump Upgrade<div style="text-align: left;">The best way to save money is to cut into your monthly electricity bill and that is exactly what a VS pump does. Your standard pump runs at 3450 RPM (Rotations Per Minute) about 1800-2000 watts. A VS Pump can be set to different RPMs and at every lower RPM, the total wattage used is lowered. So just lowering the VS Pump down to 2100 RPM, cuts the watts down to 685 watts. At 2100 RPM the water will appear to flow just as strongly as a standard pump running at 3450 RPM. Cut it down even lower to 1200 RPM, and you are down to 165 watts. So instead of having twenty 100-watt light bulbs running you only have a little over one light bulb running each hour. This is the reason your electric bill can be cut almost in half by simply installing a VS Pump.</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="356" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ekkeevBtAAc" width="477" youtube-src-id="ekkeevBtAAc"></iframe></div><br /><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>If your pool equipment pad runs off of 115V (120V) then the best VS pump for you will be one that matches your old 1 hp pump. Let me unpack this for you a bit more. VS pumps feature Dual Voltage which means that the pump will automatically recognize if your equipment is running off 115V or 230V and modulate the voltage. If you install, say, a 2.7 THP Hayward TriStar VS pump on a 115V equipment pad, it will modulate the voltage to 115V, but it will also downgrade the total horsepower to around 1.85 THP. So why pay extra for a 2.7 or 3 THP VS pump when a 1.5 or 1.65 THP pump suffices?</div><div><br /></div><div>To make things even more complicated, let's say you have a Jandy Aqualink automated system, and you want to replace your single-speed pump with a VS pump. I highly suggest you go with a Jandy VS pump and not even consider Hayward or Pentair. Not because a Jandy VS pump is better, but because it is logical to match the VS pump to the same brand automation. Just like if you were remodeling your kitchen and you purchased a stainless-steel LG oven, LG microwave, and an LG refrigerator, it would make sense to get an LG Dishwasher. If you have Hayward or Pentair automation, the same concept applies; go with a Hayward VS pump or a Pentair VS pump, respectively. </div><div><br /></div><div>Let me step back to the THP of the VS pump and say you do not have an automated system. Matching your existing pump HP with a VS pump's THP is a pretty good rule of thumb. If you are replacing a 1 hp single-speed pump, you can quickly go with a 1 THP. 1.5 THP or 1.65 THP Vs pump. If you have a 1.5 hp single-speed pump, you can go with a 1.5 THP, 1.65 THP, or a 1.85 THP VS pump. If you have a 2 hp single-speed pump, you can go with a 2.7 THP or 3 THP VS pump. In the first two examples, a Pentair Superflo VST could be your best choice. The Pentair Superflo VS is one of my favorites as it is easy to program and very reliable. If you're looking at a 2.7 THP pump you may want to consider Leslie’s Jacuzzi JVS 2.7 THP or a Pentair Intelliflo 3 THP pump. </div><div><br /></div><div>A VS pump will save your customer money and will pay for itself in 2-3 years or less.</div><div><br /></div><div>Visit my Website: <a href="http://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/">http://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/</a></div><div>eBook: <a href="https://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/swimming-pool-care-ebook">https://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/swimming-pool-care-ebook</a></div><div><br /></div>David Van Brunt Swimmingpoollearning.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15725213022886040296noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5608549482946974904.post-16978361713673221722023-12-18T11:33:00.000-08:002023-12-18T11:33:00.132-08:00How to Achive Success in Your Pool Service Company<div style="text-align: left;">Our business success is often based on our skill level, how well we clean and maintain a pool, and how we deal with people. You are running a swimming pool "service" company, so that places you in the hospitality category in all respects. </div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="348" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ZkLCpNAhJAE" width="472" youtube-src-id="ZkLCpNAhJAE"></iframe></div><br /><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>A good way of visualizing this is to put yourself at the hotel check-in counter. How would you talk to the people in line? How good are you at solving problems for them? All of this comes into play when you run your pool service business, and developing good people skills is essential.</div><div><br /></div><div>Treating your customers how you want to be treated extends beyond just the pool service company. It all boils down to relationships. How you want to be treated and how you treat others. Being successful means that customers will refer you to friends and family. One way to gauge your success is by looking at a pie chart of how you land new customers. If over 50% of that is referrals, you are winning.</div><div> </div><div>People skills are essential because you are running a service business and are providing specific “work” in return for payment. You are not selling a product; the product is you and the service you provide. So, you will make mistakes, and customers will get mad. You will need to develop good people skills.</div><div> </div><div>Good, solid business skills are essential. You are in business to make money and not just out there “spinning your wheels.” So, it would be best if you learned how to draw up a business plan that includes charging enough per pool so that you turn a profit. Service prices vary from region to region, so it is up to you to set the best price for your area.</div><div> </div><div>In some cases, your people skills need to be better than your pool cleaning skills. Anyone can learn to clean a pool, but not everyone can handle customers.</div><div> </div><div>Getting your finances in order is a fantastic way to get your business finances in order. A great resource I used successfully was the Dave Ramsey plan to become Debt Free myself. Learning how to run your finances is critical; you must manage your finances to manage your business finances.</div><div> </div><div>Be an honest person. Being a person of Integrity takes a lot of effort. I was never taught the value of being open as a youngster, so I had to learn it as an adult. If you lie to your customers and they find out, your reputation will be damaged. And in the service business, your reputation is everything.</div><div> </div><div>How we speak to other people is a reflection of our character. If you constantly use foul language in your conversation, your customers might lose respect for you—many, like myself, form opinions based on how you talk and carry yourself. Foul language is offensive to many people, and you won’t even know sometimes that you offended them as they are unlikely to say anything.</div><div><br /></div><div>Visit my Website: http://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/</div><div>eBook: https://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/swimming-pool-care-ebook</div><div><br /></div>David Van Brunt Swimmingpoollearning.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15725213022886040296noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5608549482946974904.post-16003022221053761452023-12-13T15:43:00.000-08:002023-12-13T15:43:00.212-08:00What Makes a Swimming Pool Product "Good?"<div style="text-align: left;">Several factors contribute to making a swimming pool product "good." These factors generally revolve around the product's effectiveness, durability, safety, ease of use, and overall value. Here are some key considerations:</div><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="346" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/LwtTUohEZu4" width="481" youtube-src-id="LwtTUohEZu4"></iframe></div><br /><div style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div><br /></div><div>Performance and Effectiveness:</div><div>If a product doesn’t do what it intends, it is not a good product. Many products fall somewhere into a range of effectiveness. For example, if you pay $1,600 for the Polaris Alpha IQ you would expect it to leave your pool spotless. And, it does just that. It is one of the most effective robotic pool cleaners on the market today. The primary criterion is how well the product performs its intended function. This could include water cleaning, maintenance, or enhancing the swimming experience for pool products.</div><div><br /></div><div>Durability and Quality:</div><div>If a product costs $130.00, you expect it to hold up like a $130 product. PoolSkim is a good example of this. There really are no moving parts and it is just a molded piece of plastic. So, it will last for years and years. A good pool product should be built to last. It should be made from durable materials that can withstand exposure to pool chemicals, UV rays, and weather conditions.</div><div><br /></div><div>Ease of Use:</div><div>There is no doubt that consumers like easy. If you make something requiring more thought beyond opening the box and plugging it in, you are asking for trouble. A lot of negative reviews online are just user errors. That is why a grand instruction manual is a must. </div><div><br /></div><div>Value for Money:</div><div>It’s a no-brainer that pool industry products are expensive. It’s a niche market and very seasonal, so it makes sense the manufacturers would want to capture 12 months of profit in 6 months. So, there is a built-in price for that reason, and everything costs more in the pool industry. But we also want value for our money. The Riptide SL Vacuum System is an excellent example of value for the price. $1,800 later, you can clean pools twice as fast and sleep easy at night during a windstorm, knowing that the next day, you have the weapon of choice to clean the pool quickly and effectively. </div><div><br /></div><div>Customer Service: Riptide is again a great example of excellent customer service. If you have a problem, they will do everything they can to solve it. If you can’t get the product aftercare, you are hoping every day that the product will not fail. It’s critical to have excellent warranty service and customer support. The cheaper the product, the less support you will have. The more expensive, the better customer support. It is built into the pricing. If you purchase a Dolphin Liberty 200 Robotic Cleaner and have a problem, Maytronics, the parent company, will warranty it and repair it. If you buy a Robotic Pool Cleaner on Amazon, you are usually out of luck. But again, the price point will reflect that. </div><div><br /></div><div>Visit my Website: <a href="http://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/">http://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/</a></div><div>eBook: <a href="https://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/swimming-pool-care-ebook">https://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/swimming-pool-care-ebook</a></div><div><br /></div>David Van Brunt Swimmingpoollearning.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15725213022886040296noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5608549482946974904.post-78483636525887899802023-12-11T15:06:00.000-08:002023-12-11T15:06:00.278-08:00Riptide SL Pole Holder<div style="text-align: left;"><div>The Riptide SL Cart Pole Holder allows you to hold any standard pool pole on the front of your Riptide SL Cart. We don’t flip the houses but keep them and rent them out. I have been a landlord in Southern California since 2001, giving me over 23 years of experience. I have done everything from eviction and fighting with the city planning/code enforcement department to removing a dead body. Being a landlord takes some getting used to and you do need to have some people skills. </div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="353" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/TiAEEv1rQEs" width="480" youtube-src-id="TiAEEv1rQEs"></iframe></div><br /><div><br /></div><div>Real estate offers many key benefits, and here are a few:</div><div><br /></div><div>1)<span style="white-space: pre;"> </span>The tenants are paying off the mortgage for you.</div><div>2)<span style="white-space: pre;"> </span>You get a great tax write-off with rental real estate</div><div>3)<span style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Your assets will grow at the rate of inflation or above that rate.</div><div>4)<span style="white-space: pre;"> </span>It’s relatively safe, and you have a tangible physical asset</div><div>5)<span style="white-space: pre;"> </span>After 30 years or sooner, you will hold it debt-free</div><div>6)<span style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Rents go up at the rate of inflation.</div><div>7)<span style="white-space: pre;"> </span>You can draw equity money out when needed with a cash-out refi.</div><div>8)<span style="white-space: pre;"> </span>You can do a 1031 exchange for a larger property with zero tax implications.</div><div>9)<span style="white-space: pre;"> </span>Under the right conditions, your rentals can produce cash flow.</div><div> </div><div><br /></div><div>But you don’t have to do real estate. You can just invest in Roth IRAs, Mutual funds, Investment funds, and other investments of these types that take very little hands-on operation. We like real estate and the benefits of owning properties debt-free. The key is to find an investment you want and then to consistently put money into it year after year.</div><div><br /></div><div>As the recent FTX failure showed I would avoid risky investments that promise high rates of return. You don’t need any crazy return on your investment. 8%-10% a year will make you a millionaire over 30 years in very safe investment funds. </div><div><br /></div><div>You also need to consider that as you get older, your body will start to break down. You can’t service and clean pools forever. One way to extend the life of your service business is what I call the Empire Building. Keep acquiring more and more collections and bring on an employee, and then keep adding pools and employees until you reach a level where you don’t need to be in the field every day. This could mean 150 pools, 300 pools, or 1,000 or more. </div><div><br /></div><div>Another option is working for a company in the industry after you call it quits on your route. Hayward, Pentair, Jandy, and Leslie are all looking to hire former pool pros. They pay well and you may find the work on the other side of the industry very rewarding. It is something to consider and a way to continue to earn a good income and save on the wear and tear of your body.</div><div><br /></div><div>A good retirement calculator can be found here:</div><div>https://www.ramseysolutions.com/retirement/riq</div><div><br /></div><div>Just enter your goal and what you already invest and in 2 minutes the site will let you know how you are doing. </div><div><br /></div><div>The bottom line is it is never too early or too late to start planning. You have a durable 250-micron outer layer with a 75-micron insert for the finer dirt. This allows you to vacuum faster but still remove the finer dirt effectively. </div><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="348" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/xVesYOnf154" width="478" youtube-src-id="xVesYOnf154"></iframe></div><br /><div><br /></div><div>Clear Pool Bags also makes four other vacuum system bags, including a 400-micron, 200-micron, 90-micron, and a Green Pool Bag. </div><div><br /></div><div>Order here: <a href="https://clearpoolproducts.com/">https://clearpoolproducts.com/</a></div><div><br /></div><div>Some key features of the Duo Bag:</div><div><br /></div><div>250 micron outer bag</div><div>75 Micron insert with Velcro</div><div>Bungee cord included</div><div>Zip tie included</div><div>Compatible with Riptide Vacuum System</div><div>Hammer-Head Vacuum System</div><div>Power Vac Vacuum System</div><div>Bottom Feeder Vacuum System</div><div>Made in Mexico</div><div><br /></div><div>You can also buy in bulk and save even more money. To order in bulk:</div><div><a href="http://bulkpoolbags.com/">http://bulkpoolbags.com/</a></div><div><br /></div><div>These bags feature a universal design utilizing a bungee cord that can be sized for each vacuum system currently on the market. They will easily fit your Power Vac, Hammer-Head, Riptide, and Bottom Feeder. Simply fit the bag over your vacuum system and adjust the bungee cord to size and then zip tie it down. The bungee cord makes it easy to put the bag on and take it off and if it was sized correctly these bags will not blow off the top of the cleaner.</div><div><br /></div><div>Use the 90 microns for sand and silt, leaves, and some dirt. The 200-micron is great for sand and silt, large leaf debris, rocks, and glass. The 400-micron is their heavy-duty bag and is great for everything, although it won’t pick up the finer sand and dirt. But the 400-micron bag is very long-lasting and great for those heavy debris pools. </div><div><br /></div><div>Also available from Clear Pool Products is the Quart Bottle Holder. If you have a Riptide, Power Vac or Hammer-Head this quart bottle holder would be the perfect accessory for you. </div><div><a href="https://clearpoolproducts.com/product/clear-pool-bottle-caddy?v=f24485ae434a">https://clearpoolproducts.com/product/clear-pool-bottle-caddy?v=f24485ae434a</a></div><div><br /></div><div>Visit my Website: <a href="http://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/">http://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/</a></div><div>eBook: <a href="https://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/swimming-pool-care-ebook">https://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/swimming-pool-care-ebook</a></div><div><br /></div><div><br /></div></div>David Van Brunt Swimmingpoollearning.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15725213022886040296noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5608549482946974904.post-53308894642176948422023-11-29T10:21:00.001-08:002023-11-29T10:21:00.192-08:00Swimming Pool Suction Side Cleaner Not Moving<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Here are a few things about the equipment that I check first when I find a cleaner not moving in the pool:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="348" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/dvvQy1q4QNQ" width="482" youtube-src-id="dvvQy1q4QNQ"></iframe></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">1. Make sure the filter is clean- if it is a D.E. Filter, Clean it or Backwash it. For a Sand Filter, Backwash it to make sure it is clean. For a Cartridge Filter, open it up and clean the cartridges.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">2. Ensure the filter operates correctly – no broken grids or old cartridges. If the PSI on the gauge is over 25-30, the cleaner may not work. The optimal filter PSI is around 20 or less.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">3. Make sure the pump is working correctly. If air gets into the pump, the cleaner may not move. This is called a vacuum leak or suction leak. Air will prevent the pump from pulling water the extra 30 ft through the cleaner hose. You can typically check for an air leak by disconnecting the cleaner. If the pump primes up fine but loses its prime once you reconnect the cleaner, I would suspect an air leak. The likely location is the threaded fitting on top of the pump and the threaded fitting going into the pump. I would also check the pump lid o-ring.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">4. Make sure the cleaner has proper suction. If it is connected to the pool skimmer with the OEM regulator valve that came with your cleaner – refer to the manual for proper adjustment. For example, if it is a Hayward Aquanaut, the regulator with it has a dial on it. Close the dial to increase the cleaner's suction, and then open the dial to increase the skimmer's suction. If the cleaner is connected at the side/vacuum port, make sure that you adjust the valve so that enough suction goes to the cleaner.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">5. Check the pump basket. If the pump basket is clogged with debris, it will sometimes slow the cleaner down and stop it completely. Clean the pump basket out.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">6. If you have a Variable Speed (VS) pump, make sure that your pump is set at a high enough speed, known as RPM. Typically, most cleaners will need at least 2600 RPM to operate correctly. Sometimes more and sometimes less. I usually start at 3100 RPM and then dial it down from there.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Here is what to check on the cleaner itself:</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">1. Check for any debris clogging the mouth of the cleaner. It is best to do this with the cleaner running. Carefully pull it to the side of the pool, and with the cleaner head still underwater, turn it so you can see the more sterile opening. Check for any rocks, piles of leaves, and even a rodent stuck in the mouth.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">2. If it is a bouncing type cleaner, typically, it has a rubber diaphragm (Zodiac Cleaners). Check the diaphragm for any tears or cuts. Replacing it is easy and will likely get those cleaners moving again.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">3. If you have an MX cleaner – Zodiac MX8 or MX6 and any variation of those two, typically the tracks are worn out. It could also be the Directional Device.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">4. If it is a Hayward Navigator or Hayward Pool Vac, it is more than likely a worn-out A-Frame and Turbine. You would purchase the A-Frame kit and replace it to get the Navigator or Pool Vac moving again.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">5. Sometimes, a hose section gets debris clogged inside of it. To check for this, with the pool running, pull off the first hose section from the cleaner and remove the cleaner head. Keeping the hose underwater, pull off each section one by one until you find the hose section clogged with debris. You want the pool on because you will not feel any suction until you reach the clogged hose and remove it. Then, you will feel the pool suction through the hose again. Just be sure to keep the hoses underwater so that the pump will not suck air.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">6. If there is a canister, sometimes it can get full of debris and become impacted. In that case, simply empty the canister.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">These are the main reasons an automatic suction side cleaner will stop moving.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Visit my Website: http://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">eBook: https://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/swimming-pool-care-ebook</div><div><br /></div></div><p><br /></p>David Van Brunt Swimmingpoollearning.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15725213022886040296noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5608549482946974904.post-42693353169150488302023-11-27T10:28:00.001-08:002023-11-27T10:28:00.140-08:00VacDaddy NEW! Large Debris Bags<p> The VacDaddy is constantly improving and innovating, and with their new larger bags, the VacDaddy is even more versatile. The new bags increase debris capacity by 60%, making vacuuming more accessible.</p><p> </p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="BLOG_video_class" height="354" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/6u8KjQ7Z718" width="475" youtube-src-id="6u8KjQ7Z718"></iframe></div><br /><p></p><p>New Felt Filter Bag</p><p>$44.95</p><p> The new and improved VacDaddy Felt Filter Bag offers a more durable option for cleaning. Now, with a 60% larger surface area and 108% bigger volume, this bag features 75-micron cleaning. The density of the bag traps more fine debris, enabling you to put more polish on your pool, and traps finer particles than our competitor's simple nylon mesh bags.</p><p> New Mesh Filter Bag</p><p>$44.95</p><p> The new and improved VacDaddy Mesh Filter Bag offers a lightweight, easy cleaning, filtration. Now with a 60% larger surface area and 108% bigger volume. This bag features cleaning to 200 microns, perfect for weekly vacuums and touch-ups. We like the mesh bag for ease of use and quick cleaning when the bag is full.</p><p> New Leaf Filter Bag-PREORDER NOW!</p><p>$44.95</p><p> With a cleaning capacity of 1800 microns, the new VacDaddy Leaf Filter Bag allows smaller particles (dust, dirt, sand, mud, algae) to pass through while protecting the impeller from larger debris such as leaves, sticks, acorns, etc. Its user-friendly design makes it a go-to choice for quick cleaning when the bag reaches its capacity. Elevate your pool care routine with the convenience and effectiveness of the VacDaddy Leaf Filter Bag.</p><p> The vacuum-to-waste aspect of the VacDaddy is a true game-changer for your pool route. Now, you can use the VacDaddy to do clean-ups, green pool clean-ups, and any other use that requires a portable pump to vacuum a pool to waste. This makes the VacDaddy a truly versatile vacuum and expands its service from a daily vacuum to a device that takes the place of a larger portable pump.</p><p> Here is more about the VacDaddy unit from the manufacturer:</p><p>The primary benefit of The VacDaddy is EASE-OF-USE.</p><p>Lightweight and compact. At only 10 pounds, The VacDaddy is easy to operate and maneuver.</p><p>The minimal assembly is easy and intuitive. No special training is required to use it. Plug in and Just Vac It.</p><p>Fast pool cleaning with more vacuuming power than other heavy-duty commercial vacuums.</p><p>Eliminates the need to set up and prime a bulky hose.</p><p>Perfect for touch-ups between weekly cleanings and to reach areas robotic vacuums can't quickly get to.</p><p> The VacDaddy is the most potent portable pool vacuum new to the market with a continuous power supply. The VacDaddy's continuous power eliminates dependency on batteries with limited life. The VacDaddy is lightweight, easy to use, powerful, and requires no poolside assembly or training.</p><p> So, where would I place the VacDaddy as compared to, say, a Riptide, Hammer-Head, or PowerVac? It does pump a pretty impressive 55-60 GPM, so it is not like a Water Tech cleaner, except the Precision 2.0 that pulls about 25 GPM. It looks similar to the 2.0, but the power difference sets the Vac Daddy apart. It feels like you are using the pool filtration system with the vacuum connected to the skimmer. In reality, most pools will pull about 60 GPM unless powered by a three-hp pump, considering the resistance of the plumbing and distance from the skimmer. Having all of that power sitting right behind the vac head is fantastic.</p><p>You also need access to a socket for this to work at your customer's home. It comes with a power unit that needs to be plugged in. Most pool owners will have a socket by their pool or equipment area. It comes with 45 45-foot cord that attaches from the power unit to the VacDaddy and has the look and feel of a robotic pool cleaner cable. The cord was not a big deal for me as I knew that the 60 GPM would only be produced by an external power source.</p><p><br /></p><p>Visit my Website: http://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/</p><p>eBook: https://www.swimmingpoollearning.com/swimming-pool-care-ebook</p><div><br /></div>David Van Brunt Swimmingpoollearning.comhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15725213022886040296noreply@blogger.com0
